No Problems for Me, but PreBuy Research was Interesting

Cuisinart SS700 Single Serve Brewing System
Cuisinart SS700 Single Serve Brewing System

Pros: Convenience, Aesthetics, Everyone gets What They Want WHEN They Want, Variety

Cons: My Mother had the Keurig, which lasted a few months... Decided she actually enjoyed the K-Cups so she bought this unit. And loved it more! I drink coffee, tea, cocoa... But not in large amounts in a given week on a consistent basis. I'm also lazy and after having a self-grinding Cuisinart for the past decade that I HATED cleaning, I was intrigued... My Mother tends to hate tech, prides herself on being frugal, and is't often pleased with change, so her endorsement meant a lot. But I was troubled by all the issues people seem to have with these from all manufacturers. Luckily, i love tech, love research, and am not afraid of opening up machinery (farm boy)! This is what I found: many of these, especially in prior years where manufactured with a valve that is not rated for the function it has been used for here. The valve is one part number off from the proper one and costs 20% less. The one used will eventually leak which cascades into many other problems.

Overall Review: We're talking about nickles and dimes here... If I remember correctly. It's possible, if not probable the brand names had no idea until long after many, many units were shipped, and it appears that several companies were having their products produced by the same Chinese manufacturer so the problems appeared across many brands. It's also possible the Chinese company didn't understand the difference- parts look the same and the UPC is almost identical. The valves are made in Germany, further complicating the communications... SO- the problems seem to have been addressed. Neither of us have had any issue. The fix for older units involves opening the case and silicone sealant added in the right places. Google for more info. Sad when a $2 part ruins a $200 machine and tarnishes a manufacturer's long standing reputation! But our tech is ever more complicated and customer service departments have been cut too far...
