ViewSonic Optiquest Series Q20WB 20" WSXGA 1680 x 1050 D-Sub, DVI-D LCD Monitor
ViewSonic Optiquest Series Q20WB 20" WSXGA 1680 x 1050 D-Sub, DVI-D LCD Monitor

Pros: Crisp, beautiful, silent, no dead pixels. The viewable area is astounding on games like FEAR, Europa Universalis III, and Silent Hunter III/IV. Peripheral vision is sorely underrated.

Cons: Color correction was a snap in Windows with the nVidia tools, but was trickier in Ubuntu. The lack of a vertical height adjustment on the stand doesn't bother me, but it's a little shaky. I duct taped it down onto my desk to keep the cat from knocking it over. No DVI cable is included, but I knew that from reading another review and ordered one with the monitor. Some old games don't play well with widescreen. I'm looking at you, Dungeon Keeper.

Overall Review: This was one of the most sensible and intelligent computer purchases I've made in the last several years. Take THAT, 5.25" bay cupholder/cigarette lighter! Oh, and make sure your graphics card can handle 1680x1050 and still run the games you want to play. If it can't do it, think twice about getting an LCD with that kind of native resolution. Or get a better graphics card.
