ASUS is the new Creative for sound
Pros: The Xonar line is literally the best sound card line I have ever used (22 years experience). I have owned the DX (7.1 surround) for years and now the DGX (5.1 surround). The drivers install fine; the complaining 1-eggers are just dumb. PCIe 1x is the way to go, and this card is very small! Sound quality is immediately, noticeably better over an on-board device, for both in- and output. Cheap and high quality. I sound at least 2x sexier with the increased mic volume and quality. ;) This thing can get LOUD with the "AMP" boost. (i personally use pro-gamer setting).
Cons: Heaphone surround mode is a *little* tinny sounding, BUT it is minimized when change the "room size" to a smaller room. I just do not use the function, but I did in the past and just grew accustomed to the tinniness.
Overall Review: All of these "tech knowledge - 5" newbs writing these 1-egg reviews are full of tripe. They likely have never worked in the PC field and are self-titled 5s because they "built their own PC that 1 time." I'm not just an enthusiast; I have actually worked as a PC sales and repair technician and have done so as a hobby on the side for years. Drivers install fine, and do not use a downloader or 3rd party app. When the device is properly installed, with nothing on/in the PC interfering with it, is mysteriously works PERFECTLY and sounds amazing. TBH, giving 1 egg due to lack of tech knowledge is almost as bad as voting 1 egg for a DOA. At least the DOA is POSSIBLY the manufacturer's fault. ASUS is truly becoming the new Creative for sound cards.
Works fine, but it makes loud whining noise
Pros: - Modular where it counts, since you always need CPU and Mobo power anyway - Strong enough to power a performance rig under CPU and GPU stress tests
Cons: - Loud coil whining noise under load, but not while idle (seems to be a widely experienced problem) - No mesh covering on modular cables
Overall Review: - Apparently it is not for gaming machines - I could have replaced it for the same model to roll the dice on a non-whining PSU, but it is not worth the time and effort. Just get a CS750M instead.
ROG really flexing on this one
Pros: Regular software updates, installs quickly and without fail PCIe 4.0 on GPU Two M.2 connectors Built-in audio hardware and software is best I have ever seen Easy BIOS flash process (with a backup method incase fault) BIOS allows for easy OC and has a fairly nice layout, some options are redundant though Performance!!!
Cons: The PCIe lock is bad, I had to break mine off to stop getting stuck in place Only 1 aRGB port, so you will need a splitter The on-board Intel NIC had some bad software for some time (LAN driver 1.0.1.4 was good but after was bad), making it work poorly, such as dropping packets for no apparent reason. Initially this was a con, but they did fix it with driver version 1.2.0.14.
Overall Review: Didn't get the WiFi version because... well... I'm a gamer. For you and your teammates sake, do not use WiFi to game.
Nice monitor, beautiful picture, poor software
Pros: First time trying out curved, and it is hard to explain why it feels better, but it does. 32" works great if you have the desk space to set it back on. Color and lighting are best I have ever had. Balanced Overdrive mode corrects 99% of ghosting/reverse-ghosting issues 165Hz FreeSync!!!
Cons: The software is overly large for no reason, full of extra bloatware (like RGB software, why?!), and has a terrible installer. This software is required for firmware updates... The display port connection complains of lost signal when the monitor sleeps. It is 100% this monitor at fault.
Overall Review: Make sure to use a CERTIFIED DP cable. The included cable with most monitors are trash. You will get all the proper VSync and HDR settings with the right cable.
Cheap AND quality, and this is coming from a voice engineer
Pros: - directional style mic to avoid auxiliary sound - good amount of articulation to position it just right - comes with extension cable, however it is very thin - sound tone and clarity is better than any headset mic I've ever personally used - perfectly supplements a gaming headset to avoid audio cross-talk
Cons: - the pop filter is *almost* useless - the clip is meant for fabric, but ideally it should be attached to something on your desk - the extension cable should be higher gauge and longer
Overall Review: I attached it to my monitor to avoid transferred sound. Clipping the mic to myself is out of the question, that is how mics break. I bought it to replace a broken headset mic, and have used it for nearly 2 years.
I like it!
Pros: Perfect for a small, wall-mounted TV as it is very lightweight. Has all necessary inputs. Color, resolution and brightness are very good for 24"!
Cons: refurb apparently mean you get a smashed bottom corner!
