Most Critical Review

Is this defect widespread?

Linksys E4200V2 Maximum Performance Dual-Band N900 Wireless Router IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab
Linksys E4200V2 Maximum Performance Dual-Band N900 Wireless Router IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: After returning the first E4200V2 to NewEgg (DOA), the second one worked flawlessly AND fast (for only 29 days!). I confess, I get skeptical reading doom-and-gloom reviews. I don't know who to believe sometimes when reviews vary so widely for one single product. So if you're skeptical of my experience here, I fully understand. But please read on... When the first V2 arrived, I never could get it going - And Linksys phone support confirmed it to be "defective" after 30 minutes. I really wouldn't have believed that a wireless router could be dead-on-arrival, until it actually happened to me. Wow. NewEgg was great with the RMA and I had a replacement within a week. I got the replacement up-and-running immediately and everything worked great and fast. But on day 29, the router suddenly went dead. Again, Linksys phone support confirmed it to be "defective" after another 30 minutes (just minutes ago). Once again, I'm stunned.

Cons: So now I'm about to initiate another RMA process with NewEgg, but honestly I'm torn. Is it possible that I just have bad luck? Two out of two times, the same model goes bad? You have to admit, for no moving parts, the odds are pretty slim, eh. Or, is the problem widespread and it's being kept under wraps (call me a conspiracy theorist). I could opt for a lower performance router, but I really like these features. So, here it goes for a third time NewEgg: Please don't make me come back here and say it failed three out of three times...

Overall Review: What really upsets me about this experience is that I researched routers for months before deciding on the V2. It seemed like the top-of-the-line (except for no USB3).
