Worked well and so much cheaper than TTAX.
Pros: Just worked well, wish the GUI was prettier.
Cons: Self Updating worked well.
Overall Review: wish the GUI was prettier
Great Product needing some tech. Know How
Pros: You will not regret this unit, it brings your computer to life. Initially, I used the min-CD provided by the vendor, DON'T do this because my machine would never shut down!!!! I took the card out and Vinayak Mahajan from above said this Go here: [...] and download the latest driver for "VL800 & VL801 USB 3.0 Host Controller" [Google it and you will find it easy] My backups fly with a 3.0 USB external hard drive, and I now have four USB 3.0 ports (three external to the computer and one internal to the computer). I am taking of one point because of the bad firmware upgrade path that the VL801 has; it never upgrades the firmware - you can get it from the same location as above. Buy it and you won't regret it. I am still trying to figure out how to upgrade the firmware on this unit, it the firmware upgrade does nothing. The Support for this unit is sorely lacking, their response is to check my device drivers. Cheers, James
Cons: Firmware upgrade never works, tech. support useless in their response.
Great Box, Poor Implementaion as I disconnects from the Internet every hour, needing a reboot - drives me crazy.
Pros: Fast when it works, love Merlin.
Cons: What junk, in 15 years I never had a Problem with an Asus Router until this one. I loaded the latest Merlin Firmware and it would not stay stable for longer than an hour; just random disconnects from the Internet without much warning. Load 5 older version of Merlin, but first I rest to factory defaults, and the same Issue. Finally loaded stock versions of the FW from ASUS and same issue, random disconnects from the internet - just drives me crazy and I looked at the ASUS forums and YouTube - and tried all the short and long-term fixes. In the end, very disappointed!! Update: 15 version later of the Stock FW and or Merlin, I finally got to work okay on L2TP and OpenVPN; Time will Tell on this unit, as the software has been very frustrating!!!
Overall Review: Hopefully it's just a defective version of hardware, as I have never had issues with 15 years worth of ASUS routers.
Bad VPN,. No support as an ethical company, worst emails I've ever seen from a company
Pros: VPN box looks good.
Cons: Slow at 6 Mbps upload with a 100 Mbps pipe, poor support, flaky company and hardware.
Overall Review: Worst lies I have ever seen in an email format, buy D-Link, ASUS or Trendnet as the keep their word and better yet at Newegg, as I have bought all my routers from here in the past 15 years and they always stand behind their router with NEWEGG Premier. LOVE NEWEGG PREMIER!!!!
Worst Support in the Market
Pros: Fast, Great Speed and Wifi Range.
Cons: I have to reboot the unit 5-6 times a day with Ethernet Devices, while the Wireless portions continues to work well. I played musical chairs with FW 1.07, 1.06, and 1.04 and have given up on the expensive router. I have to leave this expensive junk and turn back to my D-link DIR-826L which does work reliability in all instances, but no AC. I've had 3 new generation D-links: Dir-850L, DIR-860L, and this one and they are just not reliable no matter what firmware you put on them. Paid D-link $189.99 for Advanced RMA and now they refuse to answer my Email or give me an address to send the router back.
Overall Review: C*appy Support and lack of follow through even tough I have a direct email address to a level 3 (Thanks Ryan McCormick for not emailing me back). Lost router. WIll buy ASUS that stands behind their product.
Logitech does not back up it's warranty
Pros: Great Keyboard, not so great mouse.
Cons: Mouse jumps around in Windows 8.1, even with new set point and batteries.
Overall Review: Called Logitech and told them about the issue to fix my mouse. The unit arrived sealed and brand new, even with receipt they refuse to warranty a new unit. Kicked-me to the curve for not buying it from Amaxon.com or Newegg.com. Never seen a company that won't support it's own product. Won't be buy Logitech again, because they don't stand behind their word or warranty.
Bad VPN,. No support as an ethical company, worst emails I've ever seen from a company
Pros: VPN box looks good. Cons: Slow at 6 Mbps upload with a 100 Mbps pipe, poor support, flaky company and hardware. My Trendnet TEW-824DRU and D-link Solution DIR-879 use L2TP and get 45 to 60 Mbps using VPN, and they are half the price of this unit. Stay far away from this Chinese Junk and buy Name brand at better Prices. Other Thoughts: Worst lies I have ever seen in an email format, buy D-Link, ASUS or Trendnet as the keep their word and better yet at Newegg, as they stand behind their products unlike GL.iNet.
