Great Netbook

ASUS Eee PC 1015PEM-PU17-BK Black Intel Atom Dual Core N550(1.50 GHz) 10.1" WSVGA 1GB Memory 250GB HDD Netbook

Pros: The first thing I did was wipe the HD and install Ubuntu 10.10, which works fantastic on this computer. It's almost as if Ubuntu was *made* to run on this thing. All the function keys work (volume, brightness, etc), power saving features work great, and suspend/hibernate work flawlessly. I currently have the stock 1GB of ram installed, but am considering putting 2GB in. I'm also considering an SSD as it would make the suspend/hibernate work even faster (currently resume from suspend takes about 10s and resume from hibernate is close to 30s). The keyboard is as good as you can expect from a unit this size. The right shift key is a bit small. Also, the touch pad works pretty well and Ubuntu takes advantage of its multi-touch options (2 and 3 finger tap works). The battery routinely gets about 10hrs between charges with default Ubuntu power savings and moderate usage (3 or 4 firefox tabs open, playing music, etc...). Finally, it looks awesome.

Cons: As with any netbook, the small keyboard and screen take some getting used to. In the end it's a tradeoff between that and maximum mobility. Also, it's probably a little bit heavier than other netbooks due to the larger battery, but again - that's a tradeoff you undergo for more battery life. The built-in speaker is awful. Also, I wish it came stock with 2GB, especially at the current price point.
