Functional cable

Link Depot POW-ADT-3PY 3 Pin Fan Power Y Cable
Link Depot POW-ADT-3PY 3 Pin Fan Power Y Cable

Pros: Works to hook two fans up to one motherboard fan power connector. A cable for people like me whom are too lazy to solder / splice one ourselves.

Cons: none. Except it confounds motherboard fan speed sensors.

Overall Review: Make sure that you are not overloading the motherboard fan power output. Acceptable for powering 2X80mm (or less) fans but forget about powering 2X120 to 180mm fans. Check the power requirements of your fans and the available output for the motherboard connector. Otherwise, you will have either two slowly moving fans and could smoke the motherboard.

OK, but poor documentation

ASUS M2A-VM AM2 AMD 690G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
ASUS M2A-VM AM2 AMD 690G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Does everything I want it to, except run RAID 1. Smokes with a A64X2 6000 CPU / 2GB 800MHz DDR2 and the integrated graphics run XP and 2D graphics smoothly. Benchmarked a miserable 331 for 3D graphics on 3DMark06 so you will need a separate graphics card if you want to game with this mobo, most definitely..

Cons: Documentation sparse and RAID instructions are not present anywhere I looked (manual, support CD, webpage). Tried to setup RAID 1 for three nights and moved on to software workarounds instead.

Overall Review: I have always stuck to Intel mobos for customer builds and am investigating AMD boards due to the competitive prices. Impressed by the AMD64X2 6000 CPU and not too shabby a board from ASUStek. Gigabyte has better instructions and I could find their RAID documentation online so I guess I will try them next. If they fall short of my expectations, back to intel only.

Kingston always works

Kingston 2GB DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Desktop Memory Model KVR533D2N4/2G
Kingston 2GB DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Desktop Memory Model KVR533D2N4/2G

Pros: Never have a problem with kingston and value ram is good quality.

Cons: none.

Overall Review: I was shocked that the ram is now half height PCB, haven't seen this for a long time. Reminds me of the half-height memory sticks when 64 MB ram had the chips placed sideways on PCB. Worked out great and gave more headroom for airflow. Would have been a bad surprise for someone whom had bought standard ram heatspreaders for the memory.

Great mobo-fan sucks

Intel BOXD945GCLF2 Atom 330 Intel 945GC Mini ITX Motherboard / CPU Combo
Intel BOXD945GCLF2 Atom 330 Intel 945GC Mini ITX Motherboard / CPU Combo

Pros: I have two of these. One is a server and one a HTPC. Both run ubuntu 8.04 linux great. Haven't tried installing XP on this as I don't care for Microsoft products. Don't think this thing would run vista well but who cares about that bloated pig OS.

Cons: The fan for the chipset is garbage. Lasted about 3 months on my server. Pulled it off and cooling with case fan better approach for constant use (like a server). If anyone whom works at intel reads this PLEASE SPEND EXTRA FEW CENTS ON DECENT CHIPSET FAN!!!! Would have given this 5 eggs except for the foul fan.

Overall Review: Fantastic for common uses (internet, data transfer, office apps, watching movies, listening to music). Not for playing video games or watching high-def with fantastic sound. Price keeps climbing on this item (I bought for 70$ on release) and I highly recommend this product, just assume that you need to purchase a 40X40X10 mm fan for the chipset or come up with some other clever cooling solution.

Kingston always works

Kingston 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) System Specific Memory Model KTD-DM8400A/1G
Kingston 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) System Specific Memory Model KTD-DM8400A/1G

Pros: Fully supported memory for Dell dimension 4700. Got customer up and running with no problems. No headaches with Dell mobo recognizing RAM!!!!

Cons: Wish that OEM (Dell) would allow more flexibility with RAM (e.g. supports other brand RAM with 1.8V). This stuff is about 2X more expensive than other kingston 533MHz RAM which is not qualified for Dell motherboard.

Great Card and Rebate

GIGABYTE GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card GV-NX88T512HPV1
GIGABYTE GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card GV-NX88T512HPV1

Pros: Improvement over my ATI X1950XT was noticeable and able to enjoy 8X AA in Oblivion finally. The temps never get above 52 deg C on the card and 42 deg C at idle. I have a lot of fans in my case so these are lower temps than most others experience.

Cons: Wished that I had bought the card when the rebate was active. Cooler hangs over adjacent slot so basically a two slot-hogging graphics card. Much shorter depth than my previous card so I am overjoyed not to have to pull the graphics card to remove my drive cage. This thing is robustly overclocked already so little improvement in performance utilizing Gigabyte HUD and NVIDIA overclock utilities was observed. Overclocking improved 3DMark06 scores but often hurt playablity in games (generating lag, artifacts, and pregnant pauses). I had a lot of problems getting Oblivion to play well until I set the global settings in the NVIDIA control panel to what I wanted, deselecting the "let the program decide" option on all these effects (e.g. anti-aliasing, multi-sampling, etc.) Now I get smooth play in Oblivion at highest settings at (1280X1024) with all light effects and distance maxed.

Overall Review: Just load the newest driver from Gigabytes website (it is slow, be warned) and enjoy. I wouldn't bother trying to overclock this thing, it does well enough with the factory overclock (Mine was 700/920/1700 MHz GPU/RAM/Shader)and increasing the overclock didn't help in any of my games.
