Thought wouldn't ready boost, BUT IT WILL
Pros: big "class 10" did a speed test, and wasn't to snuff for ready boost, but i found a way to make it work (see below)
Cons: needed a registry change to make it work
Overall Review: how to make it reasyboost if windows says it's too slow (NOT FOR NOOBS) format it with a new name you havent used on an SD card before... i.e. "ReadyBoostZOMG" or something eject it. in regedit, navigate to: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\EMDMgmt look for a key that begins with "_??_SD" and has the name of your newly formatted SD card near the end. Delete the value: "LastTestTime" Add a new DWORD, "CacheStatus" and set it to "1" Change the value of "DeviceStatus" to 2. Set "CacheSizeInMB" to the size of your SD card in MB (use the decimal radio button... doesn't have to be perfect put it back in, and you should have a readyboost cache on it right click, go to the ready boost tab, set it to "dedicate this device to readyboost" step 4: PROFIT
Packaged with RAID storage solutions
Pros: I didn't have to buy it separately? I got what I paid for?
Cons: Periodically freezes my computer after trying to write ANYTHING to it.
Overall Review: The issue can be fixed by removing the card or shutting off my raid box. I'm excited to get what I paid for again... with a more expensive replacement.
Fast until it drops into a coma...
Pros: This thing SCREAMS. 8900 firestrike. Plays everything I own at 4K and 60 FPS on pretty high settings... BUT
Cons: After ~10 minutes of 4k gaming (or ~40 minutes 1440p gaming), the device just DISAPPEARS until I cold-reboot my computer. I've rules out specific 16x pcie slots, and driver issues (by recreating the issue in both Windows (playing FallOut 4 and JustCause 3) AND in Linux (playing DyingLight)). In Windows, I get an error code 43, saying the device had an error and windows turned it off. In Linux, dmesg reports the card as having "fallen off the PCI bus". It is FAST, but all 3D applications inevitably crash it HARD, leaving me at a black screen. I observed the windows crash by using my old card to drive a second monitor... the game dies, both monitors go black for a second, then only the monitor plugged into my old card comes back. In device manager, the code 43 is shown for this card.
Overall Review: This card is a beast... So much so, that the inconvenience of RMAing this one WILL NOT leave a $700 bad taste in my mouth.
Beware of the included raid card!!!
Pros: The enclosure might be fine?
Cons: The included PCIe card is a significant detriment to the performance of my 4.8 GHz 6-core watercooled monstroscity of a computer. It locks up my computer for a few seconds of every minute after trying to write ANYTHING to it.
Overall Review: San Disk ought to ship this enclosure with one of their own cards. The included HPT RocketRaid 622 is a sad excuse for a raid controller. I'm excited to see if a "SANS DIGITAL HA-DAT-4ESPCIE" that I just ordered will allow me to push the envelope of my 8-bay raid box... BY WRITING TO IT
GARBAGE
Pros: Consistent speeds in HDTach
Cons: 1. Slower than my OCZ Vertex II 2. Periodically locks up (without crashing) with disk light stuck on 2.a. Their recommendation is to secure erase to fix it. 2.b. After doing that, the issue occurred AGAIN, 2 months later.
Overall Review: Corsair blocks the words "OCZ" and "VERTEX" from their forums for a reason... because other companies make other SSD's. I'm going to replace this drive with one from another company, and put this junk in the laptop that collects dust under my desk at work.
HIT THE BACK BUTTON NOW.
Pros: The microphone workED very well... please note the past tense. Save yourself some trouble and some green, and hit the back button.
Cons: First of all, the folding design liked to colapse while I was wearing them. My hair got caught in the hinges. AND wearing the earphones became painful after only about 10 minutes. This is why this headset spend most of its 1-month life around my neck, solely acring as a microphone... but this too was soon to end. Without cause, the microphone began crackling, humming and making chainsaw sounds... and now it just doesnt work at all.
