Seems to work fine, but old stock

Pros: I have just installed the disk and my RAID array is happily recovering onto the new disk. Seems fine so far.
Cons: The failed HGST disk this replaced had "May 2015" printed on its label. This disk that Newegg sent me had "June 2012" printed on its label. It is surprising to me that this seemingly new disk had been sitting on the shelf for more than three years. I checked with the S.M.A.R.T. tools and the disk seemed unused and was seemingly factory sealed, but it a little unnerving to buy a "new" computer product manufactured more than three years ago. I wonder what will happen if it fails and I have to try to replace it under warranty. Will HGST's tool for determining warranty status consider it three years old at this point?
