4+ years and going

ASUS P5E LGA 775 Intel X38 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASUS P5E LGA 775 Intel X38 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Still working flawlessly after 4+ years while overclocking my Q6600 @ 3.4ghz. I definately got my money worth on this purchase. My wife also uses this PC and she is a night owl so this mobo has been on basically 24/7 for that duration. One of the best investments I have made PC wise. Completely satisfied.

Cons: Would have been nice if it had SATA III but then this mobo was before that time so I cannot call that a con.

Overall Review: I upgrade alot ( VGA, HDD, OS) and the choices are getting slimmer since time has moved on but this setup still lets me play the newest games when the mood hits. Currently have (1ea) EAH6970, Corsair HX620 PS, 8GB ( 4X2gb) Geil PC 1066 DDR2, Creative Audigy 2 sound card, Win 7, etc. I have entertained the thought to build a i7 setup but why if this PC still does everything I need.

Most Critical Review

Service could be better

Corel WinDVD Pro 2011
Corel WinDVD Pro 2011

Pros: Plays most blu-ray discs but then that is what is for.

Cons: Tech service is sub-par. There is no phone number to call tech assist if you have an issue but there is a online chat tech that will point the fault at everything but the Corel software. Also when you install the blu-ray disc it takes some time before the movie actually loads.

Overall Review: I have an issue with X-men X2 disc that Corel would crash to desktop when I selected the movie in menu. It is the only disc so far that has this issue. Online chat tech informed me that I need to update my Asus blu-ray drive when I informed him this is an older movie and Asus has no updates for thet specific drive. He pointed to DirectX, Microsoft Visual C+++, VGA driver. I informed him all that is up to date ( which it is). He went back to this is a drive issue...... No help at all. The disc was checked at the vendor's store, plays fine. Just hope you don't need tech support. I purchased WinDVD Pro 2011 on Corel's site.

Worth the purchase

ARRIS SurfBoard SB6121 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem
ARRIS SurfBoard SB6121 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem

Pros: Went from 30mb/s down speed on the Comcast furnished Scientific Atlanta 2100R2 to 35mb/s down speed on this modem...5mb/s boost. Gained appx. 1mb/s upload speed also. Connected modem, called Comcast, and I was back online inside 10 minutes.

Cons: I read this modem's warrenty online and I would suggest a person make the extra purchase of the Newegg extended warrenty since Motorola has a a weak warrenty on this unit. I chose the 1 year extended warrenty since I am pretty sure it will not be a lemon if it can make it that long.

Overall Review: Praises for Newegg for very fast processing ( processed and handed to UPS within a few hours) and UPS for very fast shipping ( took 2 days instead of 3 days from Memphis to South Texas and to boot it was free shipping). Who can argue about that? The whole process was seamless from purchasing it to having it online. 5 eggs ( should be 6)

Very Quiet

COUGAR CF-V12H Vortex Hydro-Dynamic-Bearing (Fluid) 300,000 Hours 12CM Silent Cooling Fan
COUGAR CF-V12H Vortex Hydro-Dynamic-Bearing (Fluid) 300,000 Hours 12CM Silent Cooling Fan

Pros: Very quiet. Pushes a reasonable amount of air. Very happy

Cons: None. All I was looking for

Overall Review: I replaced the two loud Dynex case fans I bought from Best Buy that sounded like tiny vacuum cleaners with these. Nice and quiet again and the temps did not rise. Pushes plenty of air without the racket and that is all I can ask for. If you need a quiet 120mm case fan without the irritating whirring noise then these are for you. Bought 2ea, 1 for intake and 1 for exhaust. The PC case is right under my desk and I can't hear them. Enough said!!

Enjoying the clarity

ASUS Black 12X Blu-ray Burner SATA BW-12B1ST/BLK/G/AS
ASUS Black 12X Blu-ray Burner SATA BW-12B1ST/BLK/G/AS

Pros: Easy plug and play ( as long as you have blu-ray player software like Powerlink Cyberlink DVD12). It was immediately recognized by Win 7 and bios. No issues so far. Very quiet to the point it cannot be heard above my quiet case fans during use.

Cons: Does not come with Blu-ray player software but then it is OEM so don't expect it. Only choice on the $20 rebate is a general use gift card which I do not agree with. A check that I can deposit would suit me better.

Overall Review: I have yet to burn anything yet but have played several movies and all I can say is "WOW" when it comes to the clarity of Blu-ray. I never knew there was that much difference between DVD and Blu-ray. I do believe choice of monitors is also a factor for which I use a Asus VW246H. A very good mix. Awaiting VLC 12.0 ( free) to come out which will have Blu-ray player software support. It seems all other Blu-ray player software costs.

No raid needed

WD WD RE4 WD1003FBYX-FR 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
WD WD RE4 WD1003FBYX-FR 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: 1TB storage ( actually 931gb total). Scored 104 MB/s avg on HD Tune Pro where as my WD3200AAKS HDD only scored 53MB/s avg. It "seems" to be a bit quicker than my WD320gb. Win 7 performance rated it at 5.9 ( WD 320gb was 5.6).

Cons: When I first installed it it was "clicking" rather loudly but within appx 1 hour of use it became quieter. Now I cannot hear it so not really a con anymore.

Overall Review: The burst rate on read was 186 MB/s, access time 12.2 ms avg, maximum read score was 135.5 MB/s and minimum read score was 72.4 MB/s as per HD Tune Pro. Processor in PC during testing was Q6600 @ 3.0ghz, I thought I would pass that on since I could not find any information of that type on Google. Also this HDD works just fine with 1ea installed so if you see an article implying that this type of HDD has to be in raid know that it is a false statement. Granted it is designed for a raided configuration but not a requirement for functionality on a personal desktop environment.
