Western Digital Caviar RE WD1600YS 160GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: really quiet, run cool, fast, good warranty, I have built a few systems with these, single drive setups and raid arrays. never had a single issue with them.

Cons: none for me, yet.......

Overall Review: good speed in raid 0, average read usually around 130. Vista Ultimate rates a single drive at 5.4, raid 0 at 5.9

Not the Ballistix im used to

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model BL2KIT12864AA1065
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model BL2KIT12864AA1065

Pros: Very fast, at first. They worked @1066 until first reboot.

Cons: Like others have said on here. they will not run at advertised speed, at least not long. I tried everything I could think of, no luck. GA965p-DS3, E6750.

Overall Review: I have other DDR 800 sticks that easily out perform these, on the same board. I also have other Ballistix sticks that have served me well. Can't recommend these though.

Six years and counting.

PC Power & Cooling ModXStream Pro Series 500 Watt 80+ Semi-Modular Active PFC Performance Grade ATX PC Power Supply (OCZ500MXSP)
PC Power & Cooling ModXStream Pro Series 500 Watt 80+ Semi-Modular Active PFC Performance Grade ATX PC Power Supply (OCZ500MXSP)

Pros: modular cables are a nice option for keeping things neat and maintaining good air flow. the fan is still smooth and quiet runs cool

Cons: No cons for me so far. it has split 12V rails, 216W per rail. not a con for me but could be for some.

Overall Review: I purchased this on 4/4/2010 I am assuming it hasn't changed, it looks identical and has the same specs. it has ran 24/7 almost the entire time running security camera software and as a media server for home theater. it has never skipped a beat. I'm running an i5, 4 hard drives and now a gtx 950 card. It runs very cool except on extended bench marks even then it only gets warm. what more can I say, it has functioned well and has proven reliable for me. I am now looking at purchasing another for a new build. or, maybe another Seasonic I purchased one of those from Newegg on 9/22/05 and it's still going strong. anyway, do not purchase a cheap power supply. it's about the only component in a computer that isn't quickly outdated. more importantly, the function and longevity of your entire system depends on it.

not let down yet.

Symantec Norton Antivirus 2012 3 User
Symantec Norton Antivirus 2012 3 User

Pros: very light weight. didn't notice any impact on resources after installing on two laptops and one desk top. been using a long time and just upgraded to 2012 it's not perfect but it does do very well for me. bottom line is I haven't had any infectons in a long time !

Cons: none for me at all. I'm not a big fan of 360 it kinda does take over the entire system, making certain firewall, network, registry, ect. changes hard to deal with at times.

Overall Review: I work on computers at work and on many outside of work and routinely install the trial on other peoples computers to clean up what other AV programs miss, if it's not to far gone to allow installing anything. I have never had any trouble uninstalling if needed. make up your own mind with the trial if in doubt. We use another Big name AV program at work (corporate approved) not much better than the free ones. Beats the tar(tar=not flagged) out of any free AV program, trust me on this. No AV program alone is fool proof. but for me this is a must have.

WHS 2011

Microsoft Windows Home Server 2011 64-bit - OEM
Microsoft Windows Home Server 2011 64-bit - OEM

Pros: does everything it says and much more. streams media over the net streams audio to my home theater reciever backs up everything on the same subnet. DVR for home security cameras. ftp server. remote monitoring, ect, ect,

Cons: none really for me. I have used both versions of whs and really like this one. I have never had any problems from mine, even the beta versions. glad they did away with drive extender, raid is a more stable and recoverable option.

Overall Review: WHS has bailed me out several time from hardware failures and accidently deleting things. that reason alone justifies it for me. it's also capable of so much more. I never worry with mine it emails alerts if there is a problem, which for me there hasn't been so far. set it forget it, let it do its job and enjoy the media options when away from the house. I have hundreds of movies and thousands of songs everywhere I go. there are other options out there but none as user friendly and as well thought out as this one.

polk 70's

Polk Audio Monitor70 Series II Floorstanding Loudspeaker (Cherry) Single
Polk Audio Monitor70 Series II Floorstanding Loudspeaker (Cherry) Single

Pros: nice wide sound stage once I found the proper placement. detail and separation are really good and the mid bass is solid and tight as well as detailed, hearing the skin on the drum is no problem. bi-amp if you can it really makes them shine. they are really efficient. a (Good) 50-80 watt amp is all you need unless you want the neighbors over. never been over 30-40% volume and I can easily hear them outside the house.

Cons: none for the price, as far as sound quality. maybe a little bright with some music but I'm being picky. of course one of the grills was broken. super glue saved the day.

Overall Review: I have owned several other Polk speaker and pretty much felt I knew what I was getting. however, these were horribly flat and shallow out of the box, I wanted to send them back. I did have them on a mid-Fi amp which worsened the problem. after moving them to my N.A.D amp and giving them a few days they really came to life. for my 14X18 ft room 8 ft. apart, very slight toe in and setting back around 12 ft is the sweet spot. the room sounds much wider than it is. for 6 1/2" woofers the bass is nice. I don't feel the need to use a sub for most music. so, if your going to POUND them with anything below 50-60 Hz or want to feel the room pulse when using for home theater of course you will need a good sub. I don't think you will find anywhere near this level of speaker for the money.
