8 years!

Logitech X-230 32 Watts 2.1 Black Speakers
Logitech X-230 32 Watts 2.1 Black Speakers

Pros: 8 years and still kicking! This is the longest lasting computer component I have ever owned. It has great sound, decent looks, sturdy design, and small footprint.

Cons: Makes a noise when turned off. In a perfectly quiet room you can hear 2 VERY quiet, what sounds like, knocks. I unplugged the speakers and the noise stopped. Doesn't really bother me.

Overall Review: I will only buy Logitech speakers for the rest of my life because of these speakers.

Can't overclock to advertised speeds

OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Voltage Desktop Memory Model OCZ3G1600LV6GK
OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Voltage Desktop Memory Model OCZ3G1600LV6GK

Pros: Has lasted close to 3 years when underclocked.

Cons: I've been running this kit for almost 3 years. Unfortunetly, I didn't realize that I was running them at 1082 instead of the advertised 1600. Simply put, the RAM does not run at 1600. The machine bluescreens.

A small net admin's dream

ASUS RT-N66U N900 Dual-Band WiFi Gigabit Router
ASUS RT-N66U N900 Dual-Band WiFi Gigabit Router

Pros: Pros -This router has every standard feature that one would expect from a consumer-grade router. -VPN server. What work web filters? -Dynamic DNS. Don't have a static IP at your house? Who cares, Asus has their own DDNS server for your router. -File server via USB ports. I hate having computers on when they don't need to be. 32GB flash drive or ext HDD and you got a file server. -Rock. Solid. Wireless. Never kicked off, no restarts. High marks.

Cons: Cons -The plastic looks like Kevlar, don't try to shoot it. -No 802.11a (I would care if it were 3 years from now.)

Overall Review: This is the best consumer-grade router ATM. This is the pinnacle of simultaneous duel band N routers for the consumer market. Should this be your first router? No. I have had several routers running DD-WRT and tomato and I loved that this router has the ability to upgrade to it. The stock firmware is SO GOOD that there is no reason to upgrade to any 3rd party firmware unless you're looking for specific features. I'm currently running firmware v. 3.0.0.4.370. Super fast. Great buy.

Requires tweeking

D-Link Xtreme Gigabit Router (DIR-655) Wireless N300, USB SharePort, Gigabit
D-Link Xtreme Gigabit Router (DIR-655) Wireless N300, USB SharePort, Gigabit

Pros: Very stable (after tweeking). Great range, when paired with Dlink DWA-556 PCIe adapter. Fast web UI for settings. The gig networking is a dream for HD media streaming.

Cons: The original firmware on the router was 1.32NA. After upgrading to 1.34NA, I noticed that my wireless would periodically drop single for a split second. It was recommended to me, by my friend, to try disabling the "Auto channel" feature in the wireless settings and manually set it to any number. I also set the mode to G and N only, and enabled WPA-personal. The router has had no issues for the past 48+ hours.

Overall Review: The number one feature I'm looking for in a router is stability. After changing a few of the default wireless settings I believe I have achieved just that. I would not recommend this to someone who has never manually configured a router before. For everyone else, it's a good buy.

Solid once set up correctly

D-Link DWA-556 Xtreme Desktop Adapter IEEE 802.11g/n PCI Express
D-Link DWA-556 Xtreme Desktop Adapter IEEE 802.11g/n PCI Express

Pros: Installed in Windows 7 Ult x64 with no problems. Drivers installed automatically, then once connected to the internet Windows updated the drivers automatically. I get a consistently strong single from all APs in my building. When paired with the DIR-655, I had to change some settings to get a full 300Mbps.

Cons: When paired with the DIR-655, requires tweeking in the router settings to get full 300Mbps.

Overall Review: Very happy with my purchase. Would recommend for anyone looking to buy a solid N adapter.
