Memory Issues

Intel BOXDG965WHMKR LGA 775 Intel G965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel BOXDG965WHMKR LGA 775 Intel G965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: I don't really have any specific pros or cons, however...

Cons: I do think that it's important for anyone who wants to buy this product know that it's EXTREMELY picky about memory. In the box with the mobo, there's a bright yellow piece of paper that specifies a DDR2-800 memory issue. Unfortunately, it doesn't really provide any details as to what the issue is. I noticed about 2 weeks after using this mobo, that, while using any memory-intensive programs (WoW, for instance), my system would shutdown and I would get memory error system beeps. This is very intermittent, so sometimes it happened and sometimes I could play all night without any problems. Finally, I went out and bought a different stick. Did the same thing again. This time I checked on Intel's website. There's a known issue with DDR2-800 memory for this mobo, but, again, it isn't very specific. It does mention that only certain memory has been tested for this mobo. (cont.)

Overall Review: (cont.) I called Intel support and it wasn't until the guy walked me through the website that I found the giant list of memory that has either been tested by the memory manufacturer or a third-party vendor. According to Intel - these are the ONLY brands/types of memory that is supported by Intel. If you use a different brand/type, it MAY NOT work, or it might, it's totally hit or miss. If you use a memory that hasn't been tested, Intel will not provide support. They also do not consider it defective unless the right brand/type of memory is being used. Just FYI - http://developer.intel.com/design/motherbd/wh/wh_mem.htm. This is the website for tested memory. There are a list of self-tested memory brands and a list of 3rd-party tested brands. Make sure if you want memory that TRULY works and you can get support with, get memory from the list.
