Works with Raspberry Pi and waterproof!

Rosewill RCM-8163 True 1.3 M Effective Pixels USB WebCam
Rosewill RCM-8163 True 1.3 M Effective Pixels USB WebCam

Pros: I have this attached to a Raspberry Pi running mjpeg-streamer, overlooking a robin bird's nest in a tree, and the video/images are very good at a 1280x1024 resolution with true MJPEG output. Color temperature is not perfect, contrast is low, but that is actually perfect for post processing. I wanted this put up quick as the eggs were hatching soon and did not have time to make an enclosure for it. Figuring if it got wet and shorted out, I would just replace, I put it up in the tree as is. Surprisingly, this camera has survived, and worked continuously through several soaking thunderstorms. The webcam had to be attached to a pole and I figured it would be easy to drill through the plastic base. Not so! The base was actually made of a pretty decently thick metal. In short, this is a very well made and reliable webcam, with features and quality far above the very reasonable price.

Cons: None for this price.

Most Critical Review

Mainly for Apple devices

Thermaltake AC0024 TriP Surge Protector 3 Outlets with dual USB ports 2.1A output for Tablets, Smartphones, and more
Thermaltake AC0024 TriP Surge Protector 3 Outlets with dual USB ports 2.1A output for Tablets, Smartphones, and more

Pros: Seems well constructed. All ports are snug and tight fitting. Charges IPad 2 and Iphone fine. Has a screw hole to affix to the outlet (but no screw included as expected because it depends on your outlet).

Cons: Both USB ports are of the Apple protocol, which means anything else, like Android devices, get only 0.5 amps, only enough to maintain a trickle charge unless you turn off the device. Even then, charging an Android device will take many hours. No indication of which port supplies 1.5 amps (but perhaps both ports can supply 1.5 amps, just not at the same time). Black color, red LED light, red and white text/lines...it does not look pretty, but that's personal.

Overall Review: It is just the unfortunate sequence of events that led to this current state where you cannot get a single USB charge that works with everything at full charge.

Drops connection, flawed PTZ, no support

TRENDnet TV-IP651WI Pan/Tilt, Day/Night, 640 x 480 Max Resolution RJ45 Wireless IP Camera
TRENDnet TV-IP651WI Pan/Tilt, Day/Night, 640 x 480 Max Resolution RJ45 Wireless IP Camera

Pros: When it worked, setup was easy, video quality was fine, PTZ worked, mostly.

Cons: 1) Using latest firmware, but the camera has disconnected from the Wifi network several times over a few weeks, and power cycling could not restore it. It had to be completely reset using the hard reset button, rendering this camera completely useless for security purpose. Router only about 20 feet away with 1 wall between. 2) When power is restored, it resets to the Home PTZ position, which is not where I want it pointing. Again, completely negates security surveillance purpose. 3) Created a ticket with Trendnet to ask if there's anyway to set Home position. No respond at all after 2 weeks.

Junk

EMERSON Dual-Alarm AM/FM Clock Radio CKS9031
EMERSON Dual-Alarm AM/FM Clock Radio CKS9031

Pros: Could have been a good radio with its many useful features.

Cons: Cannot keep time at all. I received it for 6 days ago, put in new battery and set the time (SmartSet does not automatically set time as cliamed). It is now 9 PM and the clock show 3:21 AM! The display is frequently flickering and showing bizarre characters. Bumping or hitting sometimes fixes it. The radio tuning is weird: you turn it and the frequency jumps up or down very sensitively and it's almost impossible to get the exact frequency. The instructions say this is OK as it will somehow tune to the closest, strongest channel. The buttons to change time/date/alarm has to be pressed very hard to activate.

Overall Review: Poor workmanship has made this rather attractive and feature rich product a piece of junk. Too cheap to send back for refund, I think I'll just throw it in the garbage. What a waste of time, money, and raw materials.

Works perfect with Windows, Linux, Mac OS X

Pros: Works perfectly, connects quickly and holds connection without any problems. I have tested this on Windows XP, Windows 7, Mac Leopard, Mac Snow Leopard, Linux Mint 10, and Puppy Linux 4.2. Drivers were needed for Windows and Mac, but Linux just works! Successfully connected to various routers, including Linksys, Cisco, Netgear, and Dlink, with all flavors of encryption.

Cons: None

Overall Review: The Rosewill website is very comprehensive and provide drivers for all versions of Windows, Mac OS X and Linux (2.4 and 2.6 kernels).
