Downgraded from Z370 to H310
Pros: Budget board that still ticks all the check boxes for needed motherboard features. HDMI out, USB 3, slot for M.2 drives, four SATA plugs. Bios is clean and easy to navigate. Board quality is good enough and the appearance is no nonsense for those who don’t need RGB. The bottom left corner of the board does have a small LED strip if you must have lights in your case.
Cons: The H310 chipset limits M.2 to a 2X path. With my nvme drive in a Z370 based system, performance went from 1800 sequential reads down to just under 900 on the H310. Boot and app loading times feel just as fast but this may matter to some. Also, the M.2 mounting on this board is cheap; instead of the normal posts with a screw fastener this has a strange plunger-clip style fastener.
Overall Review: Overall great board. Pairs nicely with an I5-8400 and 16GB of 2666mhz RAM.
DDR4
Pros: Posts on first boot and passes an hour of Prime95. No frills RAM.
Cons: none
Overall Review: Using in an Intel NUC. Flawless.
J5005 NUC
Pros: Bought this for a TV computer. Streams with ease and runs Kodi smoothly. Also using with a 1TB WD black 2.5" drive for a file server. Even on AC WiFi it does great. Small fan inside only kicks in when it's uncompressing ZIPs or installing programs and turns off while not under load.
Cons: Uses a laptop sized power brick.
Overall Review: Installed with 2X4GB of Crucial 2400, WD Black 1TB 2.5" HDD and Windows 10 Pro. Fantastic little box. Power and features that will last for years.
Cerberus
Pros: Nice looking card and the components are top grade. The heat sink isn’t heat piped but for a GTX 1050 it cools better than expected. Fans spin at 1k rpm and are quiet at idle. Max temps in the mid 60s while benchmarking. Overall great. $30 or $40 overpriced but in this GPU market this is expected. Recommended for “budget” Buyers.
Cons: Backplate is plastic...only for looks (but it looks sweet).
8700K cooler
Pros: Straight forward install process. Cryorig is known for this. The AM4 mounting bracket work okay with Asus Z370-I Strix... other coolers' backplate interferes with components on backside of board. 80C under prime/aida64 FPU stress testing.
Cons: Heavy; careful when moving the case around or shipping.
Put in Define Nano S
Pros: Matches the Fractal Design included intake fan. Room for two 140mm intake fans so this is the most cost effective fan. Silent.
Cons: Not the best bearing on the market. Silent, but likely will wear out after a couple years.
