Good Laptop Upgrade

OCZ Vertex Series 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) OCZSSD2-1VTX120G
OCZ Vertex Series 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) OCZSSD2-1VTX120G

Pros: The Vertex drive is very fast, easy to install, and even came with the correct partition offset already setup.

Cons: None so far, the drive has been flawless.

Overall Review: I installed the 120GB Vertex drive into my HP Pavilion DV6770se. It replaced the standard 250GB SATA drive. Although I did lose half the capacity that I had with the old drive, the Vertex drive's speed more than makes up for the lack of space. My laptop boots in just about 30 seconds with Windows Server 2008 Standard installed. Other than just turning off Indexing and Caching, no other steps were involved. This is probably the single best upgrade I've done to my system.

DOA

ASUS Z87-PRO LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Tons of features for the price. Looks pretty cool in my case.

Cons: DOA

Overall Review: I've owned many ASUS boards over the years and built many many systems, but I've never had a board that right out of the box did absolutely nothing. Oh sure, the cute little red LED comes on telling me it has power, but that's as far as she goes. No quick fan spin saying "hey, I'm going to at least make an attempt to work". No beeps saying "wow, life as a mobo is pretty awesome"...nothing. Thanks for letting me RMA, Newegg, hopefully the replacement is better. If so, I'll be happy to adjust my review. Until then, one egg for you.

ASUS Z87-PRO LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASUS Z87-PRO LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Easy setup, flashing the BIOS is simple, looks nice and fits nice, tons of features for the price.

Cons: Doesn't detect memory speed properly, SATA connectors can be very difficult to get to if your case has the P/S at the bottom.

Overall Review: I originally rated this mobo with 1 Egg due to the fact that the initial board that was shipped to me came DOA. I have since received the replacement board from Newegg via the RMA process. The replacement board worked flawlessly out of the box. What keeps this board from getting top marks is the fact that it didn't detect my memory correctly (not the first time I've had this issue on an ASUS board, but it is easily overcome) and the fact that the SATA connectors are bunched up at the bottom of the board and tough to get to in my case. Having the connectors a couple of millimeters above the board, oriented the same way, would have solved this problem. Other than that, this board has performed wonderfully and the built in wi-fi is top notch.

Comments: I received this board in the mail yesterday (newegg rocks!) and immediatley set to work rebuilding my system with it. Everything was there, and it all worked for the most part. The only major complaints are that the user manual is terrible, completely worthless for trying to solve problems, and the board really needs a way to secure a 20 pin power connector for those of us without a 24 pin.
