Decent Pizza Box - Odd Quirks

Pros: This is a decent little pizza box for around $1000 -- quad core xeon, dual gigabit nics, 9 slots for DDR3 ram, and embedded raid 1/0/1+0 sata controller. Running a few virtual machines on this box on top of Windows 2008 R2 Hyper-V pretty successfully. You just need to be aware of what you're getting -- see cons
Cons: A number of surprises with this box 1) NO DRIVE CADDIES-- the server comes without drives, and more importantly without drive caddies. The slots are filled with blanks. Significantly, HP support will tell you they don't sell drive caddies independently (see other thoughts). Meaning you need to buy the drives already installed in the caddies -- a potentially costly issues. 2) No power cord --that's right, it comes with a cord for a power distribution unit -- female receptacle at the end of the cord. No 3 prong cord here. 3) No CD Rom -- while the photo shows a DVD drive, there is no drive in this box. Not a huge deal b/c server will boot from a USB stick (thank you UNNetBootIn). Alternately, there is a spare SATA port on the mother board -- just note there is no spare SATA power - only a 4 pin molex. You'll want an external USB drive for install.
Overall Review: Drive caddies CAN BE purchased independently, although they are a bit hard to find. The HP Part # for the caddies is "HP 373211-001". I was able to find four caddies for ~100 and use the SATA drives I had already purchased.
Driver CD Included but hidden (or get NEC Driver)

Pros: Adds USB 3 to your computer. Fast - copied an 800 meg file in 8 seconds. Had to ding it an egg for the driver situation.
Cons: Poor packaging & web site. I noticed a few reviews complaining about the driver. While not obvious, there is a 3" cd included in the package. It's stuffed between the two glossy cardboard layers. I threw it away before digging it out! Also, have to agree that it's terrible that AVS Gear doesn't even list this model card on its web site.
Overall Review: If you've already thrown the disk away the card uses an NEC USB 3.0 chip. A quick google showed tons of drivers from dell and the like. They should do the trick.
Bit Noisy, but easily fixed

Pros: I agree with others that the fan in the enclosure is too loud. It's white noise, but still too loud. The drive lost an egg for the noise. See other thoughts for a fix.
Cons: Noisy. Manual isn't clear on the difference between span and stripe - could confuse some.
Overall Review: As long as you don't mind voiding the warranty ... you can replace the noisy 40mm fan in 10 minutes. I used the Scythe SY124010L Fan (Item #: N82E16835185039) and now the drives run cool & quiet. The 2 pin clip from the Sycthe fan is too big for the guide on the circuit board, but it slipped right off with a pair of needle nose pliers.
Good Full ATX Case for Smaller Spaces

Pros: I wanted to point out a few things missing from the reviews. First, while one reviewer pans this case for being narrow, I bought it specifically because of the dimensions. It is one of the few cases that hold a full ATX board & standard power supply and is still less than 17" x 7". Second, there are two 3.5" drive bays, neither of which block the side ventilation. One is behind the USB/Power panel on the front, and the second is the exposed bay. While it does appear that you can mount a drive over the side vent (for a 3rd slot) the mounts look more appropriate for an extra case fan. Third, if you're going to get a custom CPU cooler be careful many of the vertical coolers are are 5-15 mm to tall for the case (like this one N82E16835186134). The maximum the case can handle is ~124mm. You'll need one of the more flat coolers (like N82E16835118115 or N82E16835150083 )
Cons: You really do need to leave the front panel off until everything is mounted. Given that the case is a bit tight it would be nice to remove the unused power supply cables. The screw holes on my BluRay drive (N82E16827106254) were a bit off for the mounting system. I had to remove the front door for the drive to fit, but no big deal. Also, no PC speaker is included--not a big deal, but useful when you're first putting the box together. With the included power supply the fit for a Radeon HD 4850 (N82E16814125224) was really tight - as in bending the PCI-E Power connector.
