Most Favorable Review

Good value.

Rosewill RX-358 U3C BLK External 3.5" Hard Drive Enclosure to USB 3.0/eSATA, Aluminum & Plastic, Built-in Cooling Fan and Fan Switch, Support 3.5" SATA III/II/I Hard Drive up to 8TB and UASP Function
Rosewill RX-358 U3C BLK External 3.5" Hard Drive Enclosure to USB 3.0/eSATA, Aluminum & Plastic, Built-in Cooling Fan and Fan Switch, Support 3.5" SATA III/II/I Hard Drive up to 8TB and UASP Function

Pros: 1-reliable 2-sturdy, mostly metal construction 3-quiet fan 4-affordable

Cons: 1-does not include eSATA adapter bracket for installation in PC to use internal motherboard SATA port, as did its predecessor model RX-358-S V2 2-included 1m USB cable is on the short side 3-hard edges are little less than sharp 4-no "feet" to protect surfaces on which placed or to inhibit skidding

Overall Review: I use five of these, using both eSATA and USB connections, with which depending on what I'm connecting them to, but preferring eSATA, and mostly with Linux. Unlike their V2 predecessors, they've given me no trouble.

Most Critical Review

Only has 14 conductors

Rosewill RCW-802 - 6-Foot VGA / SVGA Male to Male Coaxial Cable with Dual Ferrites Cores
Rosewill RCW-802 - 6-Foot VGA / SVGA Male to Male Coaxial Cable with Dual Ferrites Cores

Pros: Seems well made.

Cons: Might not work if your hardware needs 15 conductors.

Overall Review: I bought this for a friend's Asian made 1440x900 19" TV to replace the IBM brand cable he borrowed from me when he refused to pay the absurd high price of any in local stores. My 15 pin cable worked fine, but when we switched to this, WinXP offered up a generic modes list that excluded 1440x900 instead of the few modes actually supported by his new TV.

inexplicably noisy after less than 12 full months after installation

Thermalright TL-B8W CPU Fan Computer Case Fan Quiet 4pin PWM PC Fan, 80mm Silent Cooler Fan, 2200RPM Speed , CPU Cooling fan(White)
Thermalright TL-B8W CPU Fan Computer Case Fan Quiet 4pin PWM PC Fan, 80mm Silent Cooler Fan, 2200RPM Speed , CPU Cooling fan(White)

Pros: Nice looking. Quiet when new. Adequate wire length.

Cons: Only starts making noise several hours after installing the fan, and after installing the computer where it is inaccessible in normal use in vertical orientation. Sounds like fan blades are hitting something, but nothing touching blades is visible in original location upon CPU cooler, or after relocation to vertical orientation in case. Cloudfare.com reports manufacturer website down when attempting warranty support. Seller website is in Chinese with no apparent method to switch to English.

Overall Review: Cannot recommend. 6 year warranty is worthless with seller and manufacturer both impossible to contact. I bought two originally, only installed the second in place of the first yesterday, so again I have no spare and must go shopping for another brand.

sudden death

Mushkin Enhanced Source 2.5" 120GB SATA III 3D TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MKNSSDSR120GB
Mushkin Enhanced Source 2.5" 120GB SATA III 3D TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MKNSSDSR120GB

Pros: worked fine while it lasted RMA quickly issued very good buy at the time of purchase

Cons: didn't last

Overall Review: Died without any obvious warnings at age 28 months, suddenly and simply not found by PC. It was little used until 10 months ago, after which it was in use 24/7, filled to somewhere between 30% & 40% of capacity.

Excellent Value

GIGABYTE GA-B250M-D3H (rev. 1.0) LGA 1151 Intel B250 HDMI USB 3.1 Micro ATX Motherboards - Intel
GIGABYTE GA-B250M-D3H (rev. 1.0) LGA 1151 Intel B250 HDMI USB 3.1 Micro ATX Motherboards - Intel

Pros: 1: 4 video ports 2: no yellow plastic 3: supports dual PCIe graphics cards 4: LAN is Intel chip 5: 2 PS/2 ports 6: 6 SATA ports 7: M.2 support 8: all the hardware works

Cons: 1: no paper manual, a chicken/egg problem if no other computer on hand to use PDF manual 2: non-intuitive BIOS setup re boot device priorities 3: non-intuitive BIOS setup re CSM on/off 4: non-intuitive BIOS setup navigating to and within Q-Flash 5: lacks BIOS setup category "Boot" 6: yellow LEDs 7 horizonally facing SATA ports 8: no eSATA port 9: no SATA express cable in the box 10: no spare M.2 screw in the box

Overall Review: I hope by the next time I need to buy a Gigabyte motherboard that a BIOS programmer who understands logic and the English language has been employed. Every trip into BIOS setup is a new learning experience. How to use it is non-intuitive. Red and yellow text are irritating. Blue, white and gray like plain text BIOS menus used to use is superior. The split main BIOS menu with Q-Flash in a separate menu at the bottom of the screen cannot be reached via keyboard. Mouse sensitivity in BIOS is too high to hit the right spot first time more than occasionally. Right side BIOS popout does not persist while the pointer is over its target. Date and time have no need to show anywhere except on the BIOS setup screen where they can be adjusted. The F12 boot menu should not present names of USB devices that are not attached. When only 4 storage devices are present, only 4 storage devices should be presented to choose from. The xrandr names for the video outputs are disappointingly confusing. The 4 outputs are shown as HDMI-1 (HDMI cable), HDMI-2 (DVI cable), HDMI-3 (nothing), DP-1 (DisplayPort cable) and DP-2 (VGA cable). Great value for the $85 price paid.

requires too frequent battery replacement

PCM Powercom KING PRO KIN-2200AP 2200 VA 6 Outlets UPS
PCM Powercom KING PRO KIN-2200AP 2200 VA 6 Outlets UPS

Pros: Works as advertised Ample current capacity on a standard 15 amp household circuit. Metal cabinet strong enough to stand on.

Cons: 80mm cooling fan isn't very quiet, runs after every power outage however brief, and doesn't direct flow over batteries. Faceplate fits poorly and falls off easily. No LED panel. Does not report new batteries are needed soon enough. Needs new batteries too often.

Overall Review: In its 7 year life it's ruined 4 sets of batteries. They swell up from overheating after as little as 13 months and are difficult or impossible to remove without partially disassembling the unit and cutting the batteries into pieces.
