Great product, but locked to Synology brand HDD only

Pros: - Pretty well priced for what it is. - All of the apps in DSM are free from what I can tell so far. - Very reliable. No crashes in 5 years of use. - Can support more drives in an expansion unit later.

Cons: - HUGE CON: This model is locked exclusively to using Synology brand hard drives. Their standard drives are about 25% more money than an enterprise grade NAS HDD from other reputable brands like Seagate. Had to return my Seagate NAS drives to exchange with Synology. Really hate that Synology has gone this route.

Overall Review: Synology has been awesome for me over the last 5 years. I used them mainly for backups of our windows servers and for a few shared folders. Much easier navigation than windows servers. Easy to add and manage users. Using these for backups of other Synology devices or windows servers and computers is very easy. The biggest issue I have with this model specifically is that it does not except any other drive except for those that are Synology brand. It MUST be on their approved drives list, which conveniently only has Synology brand drives. This cost me an additional $600 compared to using enterprise grade NAS drives of the same size. This is not mentioned in this listing so beware of this. This is a new thing from Synology this year it seams. You cannot even install DSM without their drives. There is no workaround from what I could find.

Seller seems dodgy

I received the wrong computer from what was advertised. I received a less valuable one. Everything was good and correct except it has the wrong CPU inside it. I tried contacting the seller and they told me they would speak with their manager and never got back to me after that. I dont know if this is an honest mistake, or if this is some dodgy sales tactic hoping customers wouldnt notice the slower CPU from what was advertised. Im not sure if ill ever find out I guess, since I cant get a proper response from them explaining the mix up. Id change my review if this issue could actually be resolved, but ive been waiting 4 days or so for a response and a resolution, but until then, it will have to sit like this, unfortunately. This computer is used for business and waiting more than a day for any kind of response is costing money as I dont know if I should even use this machine incase it needs to be sent back. The seller has left me frustrated and I cant recommend them because of that.
