Pros: This was my first SATA drive I had ever purchased and decided to take a chance at the low price of $18.99 plus free shipping ! I have been a long-time PATA holdout. Great quality and price. Installed it in an older system ( still running Windows 98SE ) without SATA controllers using an add-on PCI SATA-PATA combo controller card without any problems. Reads and burns back-ups of DVD disks without any issues. Has a quite tray when inserting and ejecting disks along with minimal noise when operating.

Cons: None so far.

Overall Review: If you have basic knowledge of the internal workings of a computer ( any computer ) and a diligent step-by-step approach to getting things done, then you should be able to install this device ( or any others for that matter ) with minimal problems.

Pros: Got it for an excellent price of $21.99 + $1.99 ( UPS ground shipping ) = $23.98 ! Received it reasonably fast considering it was ground shipping because Newegg got it shipped out the door very quickly without delay. The drive works just fine and very smooth. It already had the newest Samsung firmware " SB02 " installed in it when it was manufactured in October 2009 . I grabbed this IDE drive while IDE drives are still available ( getting scarce ) since SATA drives have now become the new norm. An IDE drive can be converted over to become SATA with one of the IDE to SATA converters ( also available at Newegg ) and I have had no problems using these converters if I so choose to connect an IDE drive to an motherboard which only has SATA connectors as these motherboards are now also becoming the norm, as the computer industry unfortunately pushes the public towards SATA ( more money in their pockets ) by limiting the choice between having IDE or SATA.

Cons: Newegg should have been more forthcoming and disclosed in the item description that on the top of the drive ( towards the back near the connectors ) Samsung has imprinted in large capital letters " AUDIO PORT NOT AVAILABLE " . However there are header connectors pins ( 4-pins ) for an audio connector. I connected an audio cable to the audio header connector pins and tested for sound with a music CD and vola - I got sound through my computer speakers loud and clear ( working ! ). Thus I can't figure out why Samsung imprinted this " AUDIO PORT NOT AVAILABLE " message on the top rear of the drive.

Overall Review: Perhaps Newegg could put more detailed descriptions for the items or be more forthcoming as to what is and what is not included with an item. Example - no big deal - but an installation guide as was pictured for this item was not included. Since this drive was OEM - as expected though - no cable or software was included, but no big issue if you already have them. Furthermore OEM generally means less cost since you don't pay for any extras including those nice flashy retail boxes which, by the way, aren't free either.

Pros: Received this LG DVD-RW drive as a combo deal with the DVD-RAM disk and LG OEM software. EXCELLENT drive and excellent European engineering in the design of this drive, since the drive takes any type of DVD-RW or CD-RW disk you use in it. Even the cheaper type disks work just fine. Firmware may be upgraded and obtained from the LG German website at www.de.lgservice.com ( English is an available choice on the site ). The RAM feature and past excellent reputation of LG in Europe made my choice easy.

Cons: None really.

Overall Review: Don't be fooled by imitators. Get this drive or make the LG choice with other LG models. Sold drive and excellent value per cost.

Comments: OUTSTANDING and VERSTILE drive. Flashed to firmware B360 and now have 8x DVD+-R and 4x+-RW capability, AND now drive is a DDW-082 with full DDW-082 capability. The NU drive has GREAT burning capability and I have had NO problems burning on either DVD+-R, DVD+-RW, CD-R, or CD-RW of any quality. HIGHLY recommended.

Comments: Don't let the Newegg low price price fool you. I tried them and I LIKE THEM. These DVD-R discs are GREAT. Not a bad copy at all. I'll probably be ordering more. Thanks Newegg !

Comments: Excellent drive and excellent price, plus free shipping. It can't get better than that. This drive works great and with a firmware flash upgrade ( firmware software is available on the Lite-On website ), the drive works even better. Reads very well and writes very well. I burned over 10 DVDs of either + or - R and RW types and no bad copies at all. This is one of the best investments I have made. Newegg comes through again. Thanks Newegg !
