Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 (PA03656-B005) Duplex 600 dpi x 600 dpi USB / Wi-Fi Color Document Scanner

Pros: Simple to use, excellent documentation

Cons: Does not support TWAIN standard

Overall Review: I have been using a large flatbed scanner with ADF, with PaperPort software. But I had to get a new scanner due to computer hardware upgrade. I was very hesitant to get the ScanSnap because it is sheetfed only, and most crucially would not work with PaperPort (or any other software for that matter) because it does not support TWAIN. I understand Fujitsu's desire to make a very easy to use scanner, and they absolutely succeeded on this front. But why they could not include TWAIN is beyond me. Given the price point of this scanner and Fujitsu's build quality, I took the plunge. This little device blew me away. It flawlessly scanned various paper sizes without fail. Load the pages, just press the one and only button, watch mezmerized as the pages are pulled thru, and you're done. Opening the cover turns on the scanner, illuminating the blue scan button. Closing the cover turns it off. Yes, the blue light goes out, and yes I do the same checking with the fridge. My PaperPort workaround was to set up the ScanSnap Manager software to "scan to file" to a particular folder. Then within PaperPort I move it where I want. While not exactly the same as scanning in PaperPort, the scanner's proprietary software does automatically fix page rotation and skew, and deletes blank pages. If you are like me and are resistant to buying this because of the lack of TWAIN support, odds are there's a workaround for your situation and you will be very pleased with this scanner.
