Great value but needs user tweaking to hit potential
Pros: -Bang for the buck (MIR + newegg coupon code) -Idles at 32-34C* (ambient temperature 25C) -Loads at 64-68C* -Free Game, Prince of Persia -Great overclocking potential -Plenty of ports -Short card -Cool and Quiet* -Lifetime warranty * = other thoughts
Cons: -Card can get very very loud. Drove me nearly to the brink of insanity* -Card can get very hot as well* -No HDMI cord or displayport adapter included * = other thoughts
Overall Review: This card requires a bit of tinkering to reach its full potential. I have read several reviews from tomshardware, techreport, anandtech, guru3d and techpowerup before purchasing this card. All have stated that the card is not as efficient at cooling and noticeably louder than other gtx 460's. I purchased it anyways because it was considerably cheaper. Plugged the sucker in and noticed that the reviews were correct. Card idles at 40C and reaches 90C during game loads. I have an Antec 300 with 4 fans and good cable management so airflow is not a problem. MSI Afterburner is a MUST HAVE for this card. The voltage on the card can be lowered and the fan profile can be customized as well. After optimizing the card, it is MUCH quieter and averages around 60C on load even with the fan at a lower RPM. If you want to go even further, you can reapply thermal compound to the heatsink to improve cooling. Overall, an excellent buy. After tweaking, it is just as cool and quiet as other GTX 460'
Great value memory
Pros: Upgraded my current system from 4 gigs to 8 and turned off page filing. System feels very snappy and is very stable, can't believe how cheap RAM is now. Promo code + MIR is a big win. Thanks Newegg for another speedy delivery.
Cons: No problems. Plug and Play
Overall Review: System Specs: Phenom II X4 955 8 gigs memory 1333mhz GTX 460 1 gig 600 W Power supply
Reliable and hard wurking
Pros: It does what its supposed to do and handles everything I throw at it. Running a Phenom x4 955 OCed at 3.8ghz and a wimpy ATI 5570 so I can play my starcraft. Got my rebate and I'm happy with it. Decided that writing a review almost after 8 months of ownership would be justified. The inside of my case is so clean and easy to dust without all the wires. Only use what you need.
Cons: None so far.
Solid case, solid price
Pros: I bought this case because Tomshardware gave it very good reviews. I'm pleased with my purchase and have no problems with it. i added two more fans to the front and air flow has definitely improved. Not flashy, just the way i like it. Disassembly and assembly is a breeze
Cons: MIR takes months, but they are all like that. I did get mine though
Stable and plenty of room to upgrade
Pros: Overclocking a breeze and computer is running stable. Plenty of ports to upgrade, my Phenom x4 955 will be running this rig for the next 4 years.
Cons: no complaints, got my rebate after about 3 months.
Great value card
Pros: Bought this card for a budget build along with my phenom x4 955. plays sc2 at 1080p on medium resolution with no problems. source games run at high at 1080p as well. Bluray runs without a hitch. can't complain for a mere 35$. the rebate came after a month using the 1$ fast processing fee.
Cons: the display port sucks but i knew wat i was getting myself into before i made the purchase so its not a big deal (the 5570 with the hdmi was not on sale, besides you can use a dvi-hdmi cord if you wanted).
Buyer beware. Unprofessional conduct, atrocious customer service.
I rarely write reviews, but my negative experience with Hippo Deals warrants the time writing this. I made an order that was fulfilled by both Newegg and Hippo, so the same address was provided to both vendors. Newegg's portion came on time, as described. The order fulfilled by Hippo never arrived. When I checked the tracking number a day after the original estimated delivery date, I find the following message from UPS and USPS: "The post office was unable to deliver the UPS SurePost package as addressed and returned it to the sender." I contacted Hippo and described my situation and wanted to see if they had any insight as to what might have occurred. They respond by providing the original tracking number provided, no value-add. They later send me an email accusing me of providing an incomplete address to them, in which I would have to pay a 15% restocking fee plus return shipment. How could my address be incomplete if I received my package from Newegg? In the end, I ended up spending several hours contacting several local USPS offices and driving around town before tracking down my package. The USPS rep I talked to mentioned she remembered this particular package for several reasons: 1.It was woefully packaged. 2. No last name provided 3. Incomplete address My first observation was that the item was in fact poorly packaged. Hippo had used thin, low-quality bubble envelope that was much too large for the item. The box's exterior exhibited damage on all eight corners. And, the shipping form on the package was in fact, missing my last name and the apartment number. No wonder USPS was going to send it back to the sender. Ultimately, this has been one of the worst online shopping experiences I've encountered. Hippo was uncooperative in helping me resolve the issue and instead, blamed me for an error made on their end. To make matters worse, had I not spent my own time tracking down the package, they would have charged me a 15% restocking fee PLUS the cost of return shipping. Had I checked Hippo's rating earlier, I would have noticed the substantial number of 1-egg reviews left for them and avoided buying from them altogether. I will not be doing business with Hippo Deals again.
