Great Device!
Pros: Screen resolution better than iPad. (1280x800 vx iPad's 1024x768). Full USB support for keyboards, flashdrives, etc. SD Card slot for storage expansion. Quick dual-core processor. Honeycomb version of Android. FLASH!!!!
Cons: Battery life shorter than iPad's.
Overall Review: I had an iPad but was fed up with the limitations of the device (specifically no Flash and no SD storage). I chose the Acer A500 over the Motoral Xoom because they have almost identical specs, bu the Acer looked nicer with the aluminum case and was about $150 cheaper. I am VERY happy with this tablet. All of the apps that I used on my iPad are available on the Android market - and the Android versions are often less expensive. Frankly my iPad was nearly useless for my work because the company's web-based applications use Flash extensively. Now I can work from my tablet!!
Worthless w/Win7 64-bit
Pros: Worked with XP.
Cons: We have three of these for capturing video from microscope CCD cameras via SVideo and the SIIG software. Worked with XP. Cannot get them to work with Win7-64bit. Ironically, similar Sabrant devices work fine - even with the SIIG recording software.
Overall Review: Go with the similar Sabrant devices. They work.
Great tuner when using the right antenna
Pros: Dual tuners allow recording and viewing at the same time. Works great with Windows Media Center, ORB and XMBC. When combined with a Leaf amplified indoor antenna I get 120+ channels in my apartment here in Huntington beach CA.
Cons: Wish there was an app to use it with my Roku 3 directly.
Overall Review: I dumped Direct TV and went with this for DVR of local channels. My Vizio's have built-in ATSC tuners as well. I use a Roku 3 to stream Netflix, Hulu+, Amaz** Prime, Vudo (for recent releases), and about 3 dozen other Roku channels, including several free adult Roku channels. I built a small form factor media PC using an ITX mb for DVR functions and media server functions using Plex Media Server and Playon Media Server - both which can stream to a Roku. Using the ATSC tuner inthe Vizio for live broadcast OTA, I can record two shows while watching a third. The recorded shows can be played back through the Roku. The equipment (HDHomeRun, Mini Media PC, 3TB USB3 ext drive Leaf amplified antennas) cost me less than 6 months of what my DirectTV bill used to be, and I have access to far more content. My content subscriptions come to less than $15 a month. Cutting the chord is really a no-brainer.
Just what I needed
Pros: I am forced by occupation to work in a Windows world. I have an iPad and a Macbook Air (bootcamped). The combination was frankly unsatisfactory. I purchased the Acer W510-1422 package on the hopes I could get by with one device that would run in a full Windows 8 environment. My expectations were framnkly set pretty low, but then so was the price. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the performance and the versatility of this package. The battery life is fantastic. Docking and undocking from the keyboard is amazingly simple. Having full Microsoft office on a tablet is irreplaceable. Plus the ability to run Android Apps via Bluestack is a real plus.
Cons: Can't find anywhere to purchase a spare charger. Trackpad is not multitouch - but I hate trackpads and rarely use them anyway.
Overall Review: It's no i7, but the little 2-core, 4-thread Atom easily handles everything I need a tablet/netbook for. It's not like I'm gonna be playing Crysis with it. Most of my work and play is in the cloud and frankly 99% of what I need a portable computing device for can be handled by a Chromebook.
Terrible MB - half baked
Pros: None worth mentioning.
Cons: Where to begin . . we purchased 6 of these boards. In all but 1 the first two DIMM slots would not recognize 4gb ddr3 1066 DIMMS. Other 4 DIMM slots worked. Initially we could boot from the SATA 3 ports, but after upgrading the BIOS (in hopes of resolving the DIMM issues) we lost the ability to boot from the gb/s SATA 3 ports. Why do you think we bought these boards with SATA3 ?? We needed to boot from 6GB/S SSD's!!!! And why the did you break the SATA3 boot capability in a bios UPDATE????? These have been by far the most unreliable and poorly implimented MB's we have EVER purched. We will no longer buy any ASUS products,
Overall Review: Worst MB I have ever dealt with.
Pros: Great little color printer for the price. I needed a small color laser printer for printing 5-10 brochures at a time and for printing business cards. This one does the job AND it has drivers for Mac and Ubuntu linux as well.
Cons: None - but then I use it for what it was intended for: light color printing chores. This isn't for Kinko's quantities.
Overall Review: My toner cartridges came 99% full, so I guess I was lucky in that regard.
