Home Run

GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 980 4GB WINDFORCE 3X OC EDITION, GV-N980WF3OC-4GD
GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 980 4GB WINDFORCE 3X OC EDITION, GV-N980WF3OC-4GD

Pros: Great version of the 980. This thing runs well out of the box and has plenty of room for further overclocking. I am able to push another 7-10% stable. - Great coolers and Fans - Quality components - Flex display is wonderful - Power options are good and the flipped plugs are a great idea. - Overclocking software is great - Runs Quiet - At my max overclock it ran nice and cool (62-65C)

Cons: There is no back plate with this model but it could really use one. The G1 version does come with a back plate but even the option to sell it as an add on for this model would be welcome. It's a big card and the back plate would be more than just for looks.

Drivers make this card unusable in Windows 10

ASUS Radeon R9 390X 8GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Video Card STRIX-R9390X-DC3OC-8GD5-GAMING
ASUS Radeon R9 390X 8GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Video Card STRIX-R9390X-DC3OC-8GD5-GAMING

Pros: The card construction itself is fine. Looks good, Fans work great, and the GPU Tweak II software is a nice addition. Asus did a great job on this card overall, unfortunately AMD is letting all their manufactures down with the shoddy and unusable driver support for windows 10.

Cons: The AMD Drivers for this chipset (not just this ASUS card) are completely useless for DirectX 11 games under windows 10 if you are using multiple monitors and other hardware accelerated applications. https://community.amd.com/thread/183430?start=460&tstart=0 AMD has no updates and this has been an ongoing issue for several months. As of this review the last driver update for windows 10 is 7/28/2015 ver 15.7.1 - no updates and zero communication from AMD after 9/11/2015 on the matter. NOTE: this is not limited to just Asus cards but any card that is running the R9 390x or R9 390 chipset.

Overall Review: Being they can't seem to get the drivers fixed I would skip this AMD chipset. Very unfortunate as the price point for the raw numbers of this rendition of the Hawaii GPU should be a huge value.

Solid board, Major value

ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: This board is a great middle ground between the higher end boards and the entry level z170 boards. It has all the features you want with none of the fluff. If you are looking for a solid value this seems to be it. The UEFI bios is great and easy to use. If you are a novice and using an unlocked CPU the auto tuning features are extremely easy to use and the presets do a great job. Manual mode gives even more control. Plenty of fan plugs, all of the connectors are laid out well and the board construction is solid. In this price range this is a top of the line board. The latest BIOS expands memory support and I'm having great results with 3200 DDR4 Corsair memory.

Cons: The most recent bios as of this (802) does have extended support for more ram and I'm running 1.35v Corsair 3200 DDR4 and there is some strangeness with the XMP profile - when setting the profile and saving the settings in the BIOS the reboot hangs but a hard reset and the profile is set and working. Not sure if this is related to my specific memory or not but it is a little annoying. Working in the AI tweaker menus is a bit misleading and overall for more novice users the documentation could be better. If you are experienced or willing to spend some time on Asus's youtube channel they have some great materials.

Overall Review: Great board, Great price. Asus hit a home run with this one.

Solid Case, Good Value

Thermaltake Chaser Series Chaser MK-I (VN300M1W2N) Black SECC Extra Big ATX Tower Computer Case Support ATX PS2 Power Supply
Thermaltake Chaser Series Chaser MK-I (VN300M1W2N) Black SECC Extra Big ATX Tower Computer Case Support ATX PS2 Power Supply

Pros: Case is well built but not to heavy with plenty of space and mounting options. Rounded corners and a nice mounting space for SATA drives. The LED options are really nice with solid color modes, off and two cycle modes. Case side cutout shows CPU and RAM area's of most boards and the fan lights do a great job. Overall a very solid case and it looks great. Fans are not loud and well made. Also has decent amount of space on the back for cable routing. Overall good case and the pricing was great.

Cons: No included side fan. Rear exhaust fan is not LED lit. Wire Grommets on lower side (by power supply) covered by most newer boards. Top bezel of case cover will come off very (way to) easy. No pre-wired SATA/power to the side clip in drive bays - this makes removing your drives from the carriage tray more a pain because you still have to take off back cover and unplug them.
