This may help those experiencing locking / crashes in Windows

ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 + SB950 USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 + SB950 USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Pros: Decent price, good solid board.. once you flash the bios to V2202, and get the correct drivers (see below)

Cons: Not really a con with the board, but was experiencing seemingly random hard locks (several per day, requiring a power down and restart) in Vista, win 7 , and win 8.1. After weeding though windows logs, forums, etc. And, after a month and a half of headaches, finally chased down the problem to the LAN driver. The driver on the Asus website is NOT for the LAN on this board. The drivers provided by Asus install for Realtek LAN 8169 (under Win 7 x64, at least). The Lan on this board is the 8111F.

Overall Review: Last Wednesday, I had a revelation about the LAN driver, since the hard locks, while seeming to be random, ONLY happened when accessing the network / internet. (Yes, I probably should have realized that sooner, but background processes were also hard locking it. i.e, the gupdater service, making it even harder to diagnose.) The link for the correct LAN driver is: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=13&PFid=5&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false So far, since installing this driver, I have been running for 6 solid days, and have not had a single burp or issue, and get better access rates when accessing my network machines. After experiencing several hard locks per day, this is phenomenal! I also did not install the realtek audio drivers, I'm using the ones that come with the latest nVidia drivers. Maybe Asus could update the driver pack in their support section to reflect this?
