Quiet, Cool, and Fast!

Seagate BarraCuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
Seagate BarraCuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: The drive is about 1/2 height, has one single platter, and is very cool and quiet, and FAST. I tested a single drive using HD Tune and the average transfer rate was about 80 mB/sec. Then I set two of these drives in a RAID 0 array and retested at 120 mB/sec, a 50% increase in throughput.

Cons: None. I hope it last 5 years or more. The warranty is for 5 years, so I guess I'm good to go. YES, as others have stated removing the "baby" jumper to enable SATA2 was difficult. Use a pin or a very small screwdriver and just slide it out.

Overall Review: My two drives came with the 3.AAC firmware and I can only hope that Seagate buried the dreaded 3.AAK firmware. Buy two of them and set them in a RAID 0 array and you have 500 gB of storage and a FASTER than Raptor drive.

Dead on Arrival

STARTECH.COM 35FCREADBU3 USB 3.0 Multi Card Reader
STARTECH.COM 35FCREADBU3 USB 3.0 Multi Card Reader

Pros: Looks nice. Functional Idea if only it worked.

Cons: This device was DOA. I installed Intel Extensible Host driver for USB 3.0. I booted my computer and the card readers were not recognized. Windows did not recognize the card readers. The card readers did not work. The USB port did work. I tried and I tried to make this device work, but it did not work. Returned to Newegg as defective.

Overall Review: Newegg was fantastic. I got a RMA number on line. Boxed it up and returned it via UPS with a newegg supplied RMA label, and my return was accepted. Sometimes a product is defective right out of the box, and it is good to know you have a retailer who accepts this also. Thanks Newegg.

Asus does not Honor Rebate

ZALMAN CNPS9500 AT 2 Ball CPU Cooling Fan/Heatsink
ZALMAN CNPS9500 AT 2 Ball CPU Cooling Fan/Heatsink

Pros: Great Heatsink and fan. Keeps CPU cool. Install was a little tedious, but possible.

Cons: Six weeks after I was approved for the $10 Mail In Rebate, and I still have not yet received this Rebate.

Overall Review: I would prefer to have $10 off the product. All of the hoops they make you jump through for a measly $10, and then they don't honor this same rebate.

Super Fast!

Intel Core i5-4690K - Core i5 4th Gen Devil's Canyon Quad-Core 3.5 GHz LGA 1150 88W Intel HD Graphics 4600 Desktop Processor - BX80646I54690K
Intel Core i5-4690K - Core i5 4th Gen Devil's Canyon Quad-Core 3.5 GHz LGA 1150 88W Intel HD Graphics 4600 Desktop Processor - BX80646I54690K

Pros: I upgrade from an Intel Core i3 which is 5 years old, and so this is my comparison. This Intel Core i5 at 3.5gHz is Super Fast, but of course my 500 GByte SSD helps to improve speeds as well. I use the on-board graphics and the video quality is fast and outstanding. Mind you I do not play games with this machine.

Cons: Now, it looks as though the new series of Intel processors use a 1151 pin CPU. Can you guess why they have made that change? It angers me a little that a large corporation like Intel is extorting all of its customers to buy more stuff, brand new, because you have to ... So says Intel ...

Overall Review: I made the mistake of buying a 1156 pin Intel CPU when the 1150 pin series was selling side by side. I unknowingly boxed myself into a dead end corridor on that purchasing decision. Thank you Intel for no upgrade path.

Great Motherboard - Gigabyte

GIGABYTE GA-Z97-D3H LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-Z97-D3H LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: * Rock solid and Fast * Easy to use and Modify UEFI Bios. Press F2 to toggle between views. * No problems to date after about 1 month of use

Cons: * Not a Full size ATX Motherboard, but I knew that going into the build. I was able to secure motherboard to case with 6 stand-offs and screws, but in a full sized ATX motherboard, I would have used 9 of the same.

Overall Review: I buy computer equipment based upon the reviews of fellow users. I love the Newegg site because reading the reviews is made simple. I do not like to return stuff and with all of the associated hassles of returns. This motherboard had mostly positive reviews and that is why I bought it, and I am happy I did. I highly recommend this product.

It worked for my purposes

Edimax EW-7438RPn V2 300Mbps Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender, Repeater, Wireless Bridge, Access Point, Wall Plug design, Smart LED Signal Indicator, Easy iQSetup by Smart Phone (No CD Required)
Edimax EW-7438RPn V2 300Mbps Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender, Repeater, Wireless Bridge, Access Point, Wall Plug design, Smart LED Signal Indicator, Easy iQSetup by Smart Phone (No CD Required)

Pros: Ease of use ... just plug it in. Uses its own unique SSD identifier.

Cons: Be adventurous and try ALL of their methods of setting it up. I wonder why they use the language that this method MAY WORK or that method MIGHT WORK. It did take me a while to set it up because some of the methods did not work for me.

Overall Review: I like the fact that this device uses its own unique SSD, because depending on where your clients are, sometimes it might be better to use the device and if not then you connect to your own network. My broadband router is at least 70 feet away from two of the clients that could not connect reliable, and now this device is 50 feet away from my router and only 20 feet away from two clients. SPEEDTEST software showed a download speed of about 1-3 mB/sec before this device and not consistently either. Using this $30 device improved that speed to about 8 mB/sec and this download speed is reliable and consistent. PS... It pays to check what channels are used in your neighborhood and then pick a seldom used channel. I did this and by itself that showed a great improvement in speed due to a lack of traffic.
