Smart TV Player SP1200
Pros: *A10 CPU at 1.2Ghz = Cortex A8 CPU and Mali 400 GPU “that has been developed in, and is sold in, the People's Republic of China & its mass-volume price is around $7 (see i.MX53 Processors)”, is capable of handling some 3D games and playing most HD videos without horrible lag in outdated Android 4.0 system. *A10 is staffed with the maximum memory it can handle = 1GB DDR3 *Wide array of connectivity options supported by A10 CPU: Wi-Fi & Ethernet, USB x2, HDMI & AV, SD card up to 32G. *This media player is fine for what it is = ARM Cortex A8 with no extra cooling board & a tiny shiny black box that has Android 4.0 system and 4GB storage. *And the biggest advantage of this smart system = remote control (it is not motion remote & sometimes this smart Android A10 system would not recognize it at all but it has a very nice “smart” layout of control buttons A+).
Cons: *USB 2.0 (x2) host failing to recognize devises on a system boot up (2TB external HDD’s Hitachi, Samsung and/or cyborg mice R.A.T.5) but it’s possible to fix this problem by connecting and disconnecting unrecognized devices for couple of times (3-5 times will do it). *Remote control sometimes hates A10 CPU and everything that came along with it, refusing to work for such a smart but not sophisticated enough TV system. *Android system sometimes feels sick badly due to A10’s CPU overheating and at the end Android has to puke all over MOBO to cool it down a bit, freezing the CPU, GPU and DDR3 = “The power of 4.0 Android”!!!
Overall Review: Where is the true cutting-edge i.MX 6Dual or i.MX 6Quad processor? KWorld, your future is what you make of it today. This KWorld Smart TV Player has i.MX53 A10/Cortex A8 “cucumber cutting-edge” processor but at least they tell us what we are buying because if compared to some other companies, they would not even provide this kind of info for Newegg buyers, yes exactly you can be stuck with i.MX50, iMX37, iMX35, iMX31, i.MX28 or even with i.MX25 processor.
AD3 Gold (V1.0/V1.0A) motherboard
Pros: Well it does sounds like a good deal especially if you go combo on it.
Cons: But provided info on A790GXM-AD3 Gold (V1.0/V1.0A) motherboard was not enough for me & I’ve decided to call ECS Elitegroup Headquarters in Fremont, CA, by the way they do not offer 1800 number of any kind and for USA they got only 1 Tel & Fax # listed on ECSUSA website. To make my story short: I TT one man who could not help me about it so I got transferred to a ??? after waiting for about 30 min my call got dropped, I was nowhere but thought about my situation positively like it happens to the best of us. I’ve started calling ECS again and again finally got to someone’s answering machine left a MSG mentioned my # 2 times in that MSG. That is the end of this story folks, now one ever called me back about it.
Overall Review: I did FND some basic info about Gold VS Black motherboard editions on ECS website but my question about M board’s support CPU compatibility up to 140W TDP towards ADM Phenom II X4 965 BE (that I still have) was newer answered.
Portable bunker
Pros: This HITACHI LifeStudio 2TB is the best HDD that I’ve ever owned. Iomega HDD was my worst encounter yet; previously I owned WD My Book, Buffalo Technology x2, Seagate GoFlex, Toshiba DS TS and Iomega. Right now I got Seagate FreeAgent 2TB & this HITACHi 2TB also got Western Digital Elements 1.5TB plus to that I’ve just built Hornettek Hoover 2TB (the quality of enclosure is very poor 1 fan failed right away). Let me compare 3 drives: Western Digital cannot even be in the same league as a Seagate or Hitachi not because of its capacity but because of HDD speed WD=5400RPM when Seagate and Hitachi =7200RPM, so out of 3 only 2 can be viewed as competitor brands that is Seagate and Hitachi. Seagate has a very nice stylish enclosure and if you going to dig inside you will find state of the art cooling cage but unfortunately it is not enough to cool down 2TB 7200RPM HDD it does get hot. 5-year Warranty *Hitachi!
Cons: Smart design finish will not prevent you from getting your fingerprints all over the black shiny enclosure finish, so in the end it is not that smart it’s just a bit messy.
Overall Review: *Hitachi brings a very unique style of enclosure with combined 4GB USB key and state of the art software and 7200RPM HDD does NOT have heat issue that sometimes would freeze your media projects. Hitachi does feel more stable and faster even more professional comparing to other brands. My Hitachi was dropped couple of times, considerably very hard and after that experience I would say that this Hitachi is very reliable. Shure feels like I bought portable bunker and that is the major plus for any portable storage device. 3-years Warranty
Cobra XRS 9965 w GPS Safety Camera detector (* XRS 9970G).
Pros: Testing it on my 2002 Jaguar S Type: After installation, I presented my new Cobra XRS 9965 to HW 10.525GHz Radar Gun that I own. KA band passed nicely from both rear and front direction angles giving me a lot of time to slow down, test 2 X band passed fine for some reason was detected slower than KA band from rear angle. For the laser detection my friend took my Jag for test drive going on freeway I5, results were fine (but not enough for going 120miles in 70mile zone), than I’ve decided to mount my Cobra radar 4 inches off the panel instead of 10 inches, results were somewhat better (driving 100 was a pleasure).
Cons: Your XRS 9970G consist of: 1) XRS 9965 Radar/Laser Detector 2) RDA GPSL 66 GPS Locator 3)Lifetime SUB to AURA 4)Mounting ACC 5)12V Power Cord. (*So basically I got Cobra XRS 9965 model but Cobra installed GPS usb device and named this XRS 9970G model (on the back of radar it reads: XRS 9965) OK! Cobra got me upset about it right away, why to sell lower model and call it 9970G if it is NOT, its 9965???
Overall Review: Now GPS system was not perfect, after couple of days driving around looking for trouble, I took my Jag to a new intersection where speed camera was installed couple of month ago and got flashed for trusting Cobra GPS, it was not a big thing for me because I got Super Protector on my license plates, but I was hoping to take that off soon after I bought this Cobra radar detector now I changed my mind about doing so. Over all you get about 80% protection from being coursed out by a police officer and getting a 250$ fine because you could not handle dangerous situation “right way” and passed a fully loaded semi track that chipped your front window with a rock that flew out of his rear wheels and you broke the law by over speeding 10miles.
ECS A790GXM Gold VS Black MB edition
Pros: So finally I got in touch with ECS Elitegroup, took me 2 days to do so & they can’t be reached by phone that easy, the easiest, fastest and most productive way to reach them is by e-mail, as futuristic as that. After all info that I got from both ECS support & OVERCLOCKERS club I’ve decided to buy this GOLD edition ECS A790GXM motherboard ASAP. This is why: 1st Easy BIOS and overall setup 2nd Rear clear CMOS button + eSATA port + HDMI 3rd (see other thoughts) 4th Compatible with ADM Phenom II X4 965 BE (older 140w & newer 125W) 5th Warranty & very nice software
Cons: No Firewire header or port. A bit slower (Black Edition) in some of the benchmarks. Cost more than Black edition but its all about 15 Gold technology that makes it special. Longest lifespan, better reliability & better protection, even better cooling than Black edition.
Overall Review: 3rd 3 Times Extra Gold – 3 Times Extra Protection Metal Pins on CPU Sockets and Memory Slots are susceptible from environment molecules that can cause instability of the whole system by forming oxidized rust on pins contact. Traditionally, in order to provide protection, 5µ Gold is flashed on these metal pins. Compared to 5µ Gold flash, ECS has discovered 3 times extra Gold "15 µ Gold Contact" which is equivalent to 0.000381 millimeters of Gold plating on its motherboard Socket and Slot Pins to offer 3 times extra protection. Due to this technology, Gold plating on Socket and Slot pins are 3 times thicker and stable that also provide additional confidence to extreme gamer who always plug-in and plug-out their system components. Only ECS Motherboards come up with 15 µ Gold Contact technology, is reliable to offer better protection and stability.
