Great Upgrade

EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Support Graphics Card 640-P2-N821-AR
EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Support Graphics Card 640-P2-N821-AR

Pros: Upgraded from 7900GS to to maximize Oblivian settings and man does it fly at 1280x1024. Will soon upgrade from 19" to 24" LCD and expect game to play at high if not highest settings. Card is very quiet when gaming although I have a well ventilated case with 4 120mm fans. Perhaps those who complained about fan noise have not so well ventlated cases.

Cons: card is large although not quite as long as the GTX. Both fit my P160 case. Card requires minimum 26A on 12v rail. My OCZ Modstream has 28A but I upgraded to a Corsair 620 for future expansion.

Overall Review: I bought eVGA fot their good rep, lifetime warranty and step up program. I don't believe I'll have to 'step up' to the GTX. Also I wanted the 'Dark Messiah' game anyway. Found out if you register with evga within 30 days you can also buy "free" RMA mailing and crosship for $x should you ever need it.

Popular SSD, Good Deal, Easy install

SAMSUNG 860 EVO Series 2.5" 1TB SATA III V-NAND 3-bit MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-76E1T0B/AM
SAMSUNG 860 EVO Series 2.5" 1TB SATA III V-NAND 3-bit MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-76E1T0B/AM

Pros: - Top Positive Reviews - Easy Installation - Good Support Software Included

Cons: - None for me

Overall Review: SSD delivered by Newegg in 24 hours from order I used Macrium Reflect Free to clone my current SSD to the new, 1TB SSD All went well and I booted the new drive, ran the Samsung utilities to fine tune and test the drive When it comes to storage drives, remember. bigger is better

A Must Have for Serious Gaming

EVGA SuperClocked 015-P3-1582-AR GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 1536MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
EVGA SuperClocked 015-P3-1582-AR GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 1536MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Pros: - Runs DA2 and TW2 at 2560x1600 on highest settings smooth and fast. - EVGA's waranty service and true lifetime waranty. - At 10.5" long, fits in my Antec P160 with 1/2" to spare. - Quiet at idle, but noticable when gaming, but then who cares.

Cons: EVGA used to charge only $10 to ship a replacement card first. Now it's $30-$50 more depending on the turnarround time. So have a spare card or PC as backup!

Overall Review: If you're gaming at 1680x1950 or less, you really don't need a GTX580.

Excellent 2.1 Speakers

Logitech Z623 400 Watt Home Speaker System, 2.1 Speaker System - Black
Logitech Z623 400 Watt Home Speaker System, 2.1 Speaker System - Black

Pros: Excellent Stereo fidelity and separation even at high volumes with no distortion. Pronounced clear bass even at low volumes. Well packed for shipping protection.

Cons: Bit overpriced at retail but I bought with NewEgg discount + Logitech rebate which I consider a good value. Short propritary cable from right speaker to subwoofer limits speaker placement. There is no THX surround sound decoder as I first thought, but then again you should be looking at 5.1 systems.

Overall Review: Previous experience with Logitech customer service has been A+. This time eg, I got my rebate less than 4 weeks after submission in the form of a check (not a clunky debit card). I still have not received rebates from OCZ, Asus and CoolerMaster for parts bought from the Egg in early Dec.

Fast Drive - Worth Every Cent

OCZ Vertex 2 3.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) OCZSSD3-2VTX120G
OCZ Vertex 2 3.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) OCZSSD3-2VTX120G

Pros: Very Fast. Easy to install. Right sized for OS and programs. Use a HDD for storage.

Cons: None

Overall Review: Sympathize with previous guy whose SSD died on him after only a few weeks. Truth is, even the best components sometimes fail.

Great Board

ASUS P6X58D Premium LGA 1366 Intel X58 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASUS P6X58D Premium LGA 1366 Intel X58 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Top quality components, Near perfect layout. Fired up first time on new build. IMO, the P6X58-E was the best buy of the X58's, but got the Pro on sale for only $10 more.

Cons: Hate the sideways SATA ports. My advice -- plug your SATA cables before installing the MB.

Overall Review: I've build many PC's and helped others diagnose their build problems and only once had a bad MB. Common builder problems: improper CPU, RAM or Video Card seating or incorrect heatsink install, not connecting all PSU cables, Wrong RAM, etc. As a result, take the "DOA or Bad MB" ratings of new builds with a grain of salt.
