Fantastic boot drive

WD Blue 3D NAND 250GB Internal SSD - SATA III 6Gb/s M.2 2280 Solid State Drive - WDS250G2B0B
WD Blue 3D NAND 250GB Internal SSD - SATA III 6Gb/s M.2 2280 Solid State Drive - WDS250G2B0B

Pros: Insane bootup time (cold start to Win10 loaded in ~20 seconds) Similar results for all of my "heavy" loading programs (Adobe suite, CAD software) Easy install on my ASRock board (does take some finesse, see below), BIOS detected immediately/no hassle launch Decent price

Cons: That tiny, tiny screw was nerve-wracking, but it went in without issue. Didn't know it would stick up at an angle until [verb describing turning of a screw that newegg has filtered as obscenity] down, either--thought I broke it for a second.

Overall Review: Have this paired with a HDD for bigger storage, so this is my "core programs" drive. Setup is working great so far. Apparently there are faster drives, but...anyone who thinks this is slow is insane. Windows boots in seconds. Photoshop launches in seconds. Illustrator launches in SECONDS! Are we really going to fall down the pit of "well it COULD open in 4.5 seconds instead of 5.1...?" Listen, kids, back in MY day, we had to drag our 16kb of RAM uphill, through the snow, and we were THANKFUL...

Great budget case

Rosewill ATX Full Tower Gaming PC Computer Case, EATX Support, Dual PSU Support, Optional 360mm Water Cooling Radiator, up to 7 Fan Support - RISE

Pros: Big (for building!) Runs cool, good airflow Included fans work fine Control panel (and fan controls) is handy OK cable management Window Cheap with decent build quality

Cons: Big (like...real big) Cable management is OK--still wound up with one or two rogue power cables that just wouldn't take the scenic route Window is heavily tinted; don't expect to see much beside whatever LEDs you've got inside Fan wiring is pretty simple but the instructions (and bonus add-on instructional sticker) were a tad confusing, stumped me for a bit. Eventually I just pulled a "it should be like this, try it" and it worked fine--now I see what they were getting at but it wasn't obvious at first.

Overall Review: Wasn't sure how the fans would work, but I'm running a GTX 1060 and an 8th gen i7 six-core, and the whole setup is staying very cool with the stock fans (sometimes blowing out air cooler than the room). No overclocking on my setup. Remains to be seen how long they last, but I view it as at least having saved me some hassle up front.

MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 ATX Video Card GTX 1060 GAMING X 6G

Pros: Great performance. Runs cold even under stress (no overclocking or anything). Quiet, too.

Cons: Big? But it's a full size card, what do you expect.

Overall Review: Debated quite a lot between this and shelling out for a 1070. Happy I saved the cash, this is running everything I can throw at it and asking for more. Only reasons the extra horsepower might be worth it is if you plan to run a lot of VR, or if you're REALLY, REALLY worried about future-proofing to the tune of an extra couple hundred bucks. I'm...not. I can live with using "medium to high" instead of "ULTRA EYEGOUGER PUNCHFACE" settings on whatever bleeding-edge AAA title comes out in five years.

Great deal - vents lava though

MSI GE Series - 15.6" - Intel Core i7 4th Gen 4710HQ (2.50GHz) - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M - 8GB DDR3L - 1TB HDD - Windows 8.1 64-Bit - Gaming Laptop (GE60 Apache-469 )

Pros: Great specs for the money, boots fast (well, it's new), runs games and CAD software with no hiccups. Very solid feel, good keyboard. Not too heavy for a gaming rig. Battery seems decent (haven't run it down deliberately yet) although I haven't tried running on batteries while gaming. Pretty happy with this video card considering the cost.

Cons: The screen isn't great. It works fine, but it has a pretty narrow range of contrast and is really picky about the viewing angle. Not as noticable when playing games or watching video, but it's hard to do anything text-based on a white background (surf facebook etc) without some washout. I plan to hook it up to an external any time I'm using it as a dedicated workstation so I wasn't too concerned about this. The left side gets HOT. Cooling overall is actually pretty good; the bottom and the rest of the laptop don't heat up much at all, and if you're just surfing netflix or email then nothing much happens. Don't have a problem sitting it on my lap, even. But fire up a graphics-intensive game and that left vent...Yikes. I've made the mistake of setting a beverage next to it a few times now (habit) and wound up heating it way past "refreshing" in a couple minutes. I don't think it's going to start any fires, but I'd make sure not to block it for fear of damaging the GPU.

Overall Review: Snagged this on sale for <$1000, extremely good deal. My primary uses are professional CAD and rendering with an occasional game or two, so this was a great buy instead of one of the huge Dell Precision bricks (for double the price with a worse video card). Screen is fine for when I'm traveling or sitting in a coffee shop but I wouldn't make it my primary. Just mind that vent when you start pushing it hard.

Fine product but shipped ~2wks behind the rest of my order. Wound up using some generic compound included with my processor instead of holding up my whole build for this. Has been running cool with no issue, so...yeah.
