Great Quality - Low Price

Pros: Great sound for the price. Power doesn't need to be on to use the headphone jack. Separate control on the sub woofer controls bass level. Single serial cable reduces clutter. Speakers and sub woofer have a small footprint, perfect for a dorm or student apartment set up.
Cons: Cardboard tube inside of the sub woofer fell out the first week. I managed to pull it back into place, but now it needs tape to be kept in place.
Overall Review: I bought these when I started college a few years ago because I was sick of my roommate's music overpowering my laptop's built in speakers. They still work as well as the day I bought them. I keep the bass turned all the way down so it doesn't rattle the floor (I have downstairs neighbors) and it still delivers a decent amount of kick.
Could've been a contender

Pros: Relatively quiet. USB 2 and Firewire. Low price.
Cons: No cooling. Power connector is proprietary (i.e. must replace with a Vantec model if it breaks). HDD Activity light is basically pointless, since it's always on.
Overall Review: The power connector inside the unit broke, so now the only way it operates is with a piece of tape holding the cord in at a certain angle. Lucky for Vantec it outlived it's 1 year warranty. Up until now it was a decent case, but now I may look for something a little sturdier.
Really good for the price

Pros: Big, bright screen. I had to turn it down. =O Not too heavy, good for LAN parties. Speaking of games, good response time leads to no ghosting. Socket for a lock cable (Good to have when you live in student housing).
Cons: No DVI. No adjustable height, but that seems to be the standard. Max resolution is the same as my Samsung 17" LCD, could be higher IMO.
Overall Review: I've been happy with this monitor so far. It burns me up that two years ago I paid almost $400 for a 17" LCD, and that was "reasonable" for one of that quality. Friend of mine was watching me play World of Warcraft on this and was jealous.
