great looking case

LIAN LI PC-O8WX Black Aluminum ,and Tempered glass ATX Super Tower Computer Case ATX PSU (Optional) Power Supply
LIAN LI PC-O8WX Black Aluminum ,and Tempered glass ATX Super Tower Computer Case ATX PSU (Optional) Power Supply

Pros: -Tempered glass is slightly darkened resulting in a very nice look with the lights. -Inside corner where the glass meets is beveled to direct the LED light strip directly into the case -Panels are snap on/off, very easy to remove without tools

Cons: Soft aluminum screws for the glass panels! Shame on you Lian Li, nothing at this price point should include aluminum screws. They are easy to strip if you are not extremely carful. Even if you are careful and one of the holes has a burr it can still strip the screw before you even realize it. To make it worse, you are given exactly 8 so you have no spares. These should of been made of steel like all the other screws that come with the case.

Overall Review: Lian Li, if you would like to make improvements to this case consider the following: 1) Use black / less obvious stickers on the front fans, it distracts from the beautiful aesthetic this case is trying to achieve 2) Use steel screws for the glass holes, better yet use a helicoil or similar insert as these panels will be taken on and off with some frequency to add/change components. The use of aluminum screws here is very poor design. 3) Include a fan black please. Other people, if you would like to make improvements to this case consider the following: If you strip the holes (or more likely the screws) for the glass, you can re-tap them with a 6-32 tap and #36 Drill. This will allow you to use the hard drive screws that came with the case. The offset for the rubber dampeners on the screws fits perfectly through the spacers on the glass. They mimic the design of the original screws as well, so its a win/win.

Quality Control is lacking

Thermaltake Core P3 Black ATX Open Frame Panoramic Viewing Tt LCS Certified Gaming Computer Case with Riser Cable CA-1G4-00M1WN-00
Thermaltake Core P3 Black ATX Open Frame Panoramic Viewing Tt LCS Certified Gaming Computer Case with Riser Cable CA-1G4-00M1WN-00

Pros: wall mountable, looks nice in the pictures

Cons: The edges of the plexiglass were heavily chipped (pea size chunks missing in places) and completely unfinished. There was also a large chunk torn out of the protective covering with a deep scratch in the panel. The PCI-E back panel bracket was missing from the packaging making the riser completely unusable.

Overall Review: This would be a great case if Thermaltake would just get their quality control together. The condition that this case was sent out the door in was just unacceptable. After contacting their support they said they would replace the panel.. however I would have to pay to have the damaged one shipped back to them... does not seem very fair seeing as I did nothing more then open the package. After discovering the missing piece, I opted to just return the case to Newegg and go with a different manufacturer. You are in for a dice roll if you order one of these, and I hope you have better luck then I did.

SUPERMICRO MBD-X8SAX-O LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Xeon Server Motherboard
SUPERMICRO MBD-X8SAX-O LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Xeon Server Motherboard

Pros: I have had this board running in nearly 24/7 operation for over 3 years now and have never had a problem with it (running Windows Server 2008R2). Booted up first go on day one and every time there after when I installed new hardware.

Cons: none

Overall Review: Set Up: Chassis: Supermicro CSE-743T-645B (Supermicro still makes the CSE-743T case in a 665w variant, highly recommended) RAM: One Kingston KVR1333D3N9HK3/12G kit & One KVR1333D3N9K3/6G kit (total of 18gigs) CPU: core i7 920 (bloomfield) Heatsink: I used the stock Intel cooler for nearly all 3 years before upgrading to a Noctua NH-U9DX heat sink (This requires a threaded backplate, Supermicro part# BKT-0023L). The Intel stock cooler worked fine until I finally got the case loaded with 13 hard drives, 2 raid cards, and a 6950 ati card to drive my 3 monitors. I wanted to keep the temps down so the board would would never kick the case fans into high gear (total of 7 pwm fans). I believe most people find various issues with this board (and others like it) because they do not use a Supermicro case, which these boards are definitely designed to be used with. They will work in just about any ATX for sure, but everything will just click right with a supermicro chassis.

works perfectly

Kingston 12GB (3 x 4GB) DDR3 1333 Desktop Memory Model KVR1333D3N9HK3/12G

Pros: low cost, simple, works.

Cons: none

Overall Review: Used in a Supermicro MBD-X8SAX-O along side an old 6gig set from kingston (KVR1333D3N9K3/6G) to populate all 6 slots. No issues what so ever all 18 gigs showed up right off the bat.

Works Good

Pros: near same price as a standard drive and a 1/3 of the size. I have noticed no difference in performance between it and a normal 5.25 drive

Cons: none

Overall Review: Used in an Icy Dock back plane (MB994IPO-3SB)

ICY DOCK 2 Bay 2.5 HDD SSD Hot Swap Backplane Cage Mobile Rack with Slim ODD Tray for 5.25 Drive Bay - ToughArmor MB994IPO-3SB

Pros: OEM drive friendly, comes with all the screws for the drives and case (even the ridiculously small slim optical drive screws). Nice soft green lights for the installed drives (always on). SATA or SAS, The fan has an off switch. The cage itself is all metal, with a solid/heavy feel. Have not noticed any slow down in speed from the drives at all.

Cons: The Newegg description (and Icy Docks site) says it has amber activity lights for the drives. This does not appear to be the case however as I have yet to see them with the SATA SSDs I am using.

Overall Review: Using the unit with a LITE-ON DS-8A8SH DVD Burner and two Samsung 830 256gig solid state drives in raid 0. If you have a case that uses rails that attach to 5.25 drives for quick disconnect be careful to check that they can accommodate rounded head screws (th type this unit comes with). The screws this drive needs are very shallow as space inside the unit gets tight (you will want to use the ones that come with it). If your rail system requires flat head screws you may run into trouble with their length. All in all a very good unit, would recommend to anyone.
