Good buy
Pros: Good workhorse computer. Used for gaming and Lightroom 3. 2 Hard drive bays. Very light weight. Single 4 GB of RAM stick. Good color and brightness on the display. Nvidia video chipset. :)
Cons: Wireless has to be disabled every boot even if you have a wired network connection. Easy to do but would be good if there was a way to disable it until you wanted it on. Slow (5400) but large (750 GB) hard drive. OK sound. 1600X900 max display?
Overall Review: OK I just read another persons review and read that this laptop had a 4 GB stick in it and one open slot. Sorry I did not believe it so I had to power down and check it for myself. Well it is true. I had been planing on upgrading the RAM but currently it just has not been a bottleneck in the system. Also I would recommend upgrading the main drive in the computer but I have kept the original one for spare room which is good for digital photo storage. The laptop runs cool but I do have a cooling fan under it (Rosewell RNA-7700). All in all this would be a system I would buy again. I have had it since 4-8 and no problems. One last thing. You do have to make your own DVD's for restore as is the case with 99% of laptops sold. The one thing that stands out is Samsung has you make 2. One is just OS the other is a disc that you can select what other software you want install back. So if you do not want all of the AV and other stuff you make the disks reinstall and just select what you want.
Update
Pros: Core i3 4 Gigs of ram is onboard no way to upgrade.
Cons: Non existing support. Hard drive that comes with it is slow. I should look up the model number but I am betting it is a 4200 rpm drive with a very small cache. Another odd note. MY LG Bluray USB 3 burner does not work on the USB 3 port but is does on the USB 2. An external USB 3 drive I have works fine on the USB 3 port. That is just odd. I guess I should go see if there is a USB 3 drive update for this also. I might have missed it when I was updating all the rest.
Overall Review: Not sure why but I could not update my other post. So if you ever wonder what happens after ASUS supports submits something in this form well you reply to the e-mail address and they do nothing. I have checked my spam folder nothing in it. So you send off an e-mail and it goes straight into their deleted folder is my guess. It does make you wonder if you list out your problems here why do then not just tell you how to fix them? I need to make a copy of the media so I can reinstall. How do I do that? AI Recovery was not on the computer like it was supposed to be so how do I get it? It is not available from your download site for the notebook.
Great card until it faild
Pros: The card has been running great and playing all the games my kid wants easily.
Cons: Bought on 11-30-2016. Died on 7-25-2018. I just saw it has a 3 year warranty so I am on here trying to figure out how to send it in for repair.
Overall Review: Gigabyte makes good cards I am sorry to see these seems to have a high failure rate. My other Gigabyte cards are running great.
Baby monitor
Pros: Remote camera control from phone Works good in no to low light Small Has Mic for remote listening
Cons: Short power cable
Overall Review: I bought this as a baby moni8tor. It works great. It connets to our wireless netowork and we use our phones to view through the camera and we can even hear what is going on in the room. Cool scary part is this by default reaches out to the internet through my firewall and I can from anywhere view what is going on so make sure to cahnge the default accounts and set a good password.
Wicked little computer
Pros: This is a cool lillte computer. This Core i3 has dual core and 2 Hyperthreads. Tons of USB ports all over the computer. The power suppy is a regular sized ATX and can be easily upgraded. It come with a wifi card which I am pretty sure also has the Bluetooth built intto it so if you remove it you lose WiFi and Bluetooth.
Cons: The slots on the back are the break away type so once you remove them you need to find a way block the hole if you remove the card that was in it. It only comes with 1 screw that is holding in the WiFi card so you will need your own if you are adding any cards. Not really a con. It has 2 3.5 bays in the case that look like where I used to put Floppy drives open so you could add 2 more drives. Check out the pictures. I have not tried to mount anything so maybe the screw holes do not line up but I can fix that. :) I list this as a con but others might love it. The mouse weighs nothing. I have never seen a mouse this light. the keyboard is a normal standard keyboard nothing really good or bad about it.
Overall Review: OK so a couple of things to know. If you are going to make the default restore disks you will need at least a 16 GB USB flash drive. The Factory default restore will only image itself to a USB Flash drive. I worked with Support and it would not go on a USB hard drive. You can order the recovey media from Gateway for $20 though. The 2 memory modules the come with it are a 2 GB and a 4 GB with 2 slots left open. Not sure why but all website say the max memory for this computer is 16 GB. Intel states for this Core i3 the max memory is 32 GB. If I ever put 8 GB memory modules in this I will update my review to say if they worked or not. It you plan on installing any good gaming video cards you will need to upgrade the power supply. This was very easy to do. The case takes a regular ATX power supply. It also has an OK cable management clip inside the case that can help in keeping your wires out of the way.
Cool video card
Pros: Great price (2-28-2013) for a good card. Worked right out of the box. No fan blades broken or anything. Really cool overclocking utility came with the card plus preformace testing software.
Cons: Video drivers shipped on the CD were not compatiable with Windows 8. No biggie just go to NVidia's website and down load the latest and they work. Also as soon as I had installed the MSI Afterburner software it dected and update so you might just want to go get the updated version first. Again no suprise with either of these.
Overall Review: I do not see this listed. You need at least a 500 watts power supply for this card. This is from the manual that comes with the card. No shock since if you look in the picture it does show it comes with a power adapter but it would have been nice to know that upfront. I upgraded the power supply to a 600 watts one in the Gateway DX4860-UR308 I got my son and it runs everything he needs great. Even higher end video games.
