It's Really That Amazing
Pros: First of all, I'd like to point at that I actually own this board. I know, right? Who reviews something on here they own? Ranting aside, this motherboard is truly awesome. First of all, a minor detail, but the BIOS is very easy to navigate. My board did not give any false readings on temperatures, and my PhenomII 955 is running more stable than ever. I have tortured my system since the arrival of this motherboard, and all I can say is "Wow". I have two GTX 260's in SLI and had 0 hiccups and installation was a breeze. The NB runs cool, and the lights on the board are a nice touch. There are also plenty of USB plugins on the motherboard itself. I won't rate the onboard VGA because I'm not using it. Remember to turn this off in the BIOS if you are only using your dedicated card.
Cons: I wouldn't trust a review that didn't give any cons. As said before, this motherboard is amazing. However, the placement of the power connectors wasn't very well thought out. Also, in difference to other AM3 boards, you need to "flip" your power cord as the connecter is backwards. You will understand what I mean if you purchase this board. Also, there aren't many USB ports on the back. This isn't a big problem, but If you have a hefty backup system and a lot of accessories (and don't have a case with a lot of USB ports) look elsewhere. Also, I don't know many people who run 3 cards in SLI, but the board only comes with a 2-way SLI connector. This could be a con, but not incredibly likely.
Overall Review: I can't stress enough how great this motherboard really is. I will update this review if something strange happens, but so far I'm as happy as can be. Also, you all know how your BIOS always has a "quick start" option (or something of the sort)? Well, this one does what it advertises. Boot logo and BAM - starts the Win7 startup immediately. No POST screen. Period. Odds are this will drop in price at some point, but I still advise anyone and everyone to purchase this board. Thank you Newegg as well for the fast shipping!
Do Not Purchase W/ 965 125w (C3)
Pros: For those of you purchasing this board with one of the C2 (earlier) chips, this board has done fantastic in reviews. In fact, read the reviews on Newegg. For the most part, this board is a great overclocker and stable.
Cons: PLEASE READ: I've never given out a one egg before. Most of the time I think it's childish and you get reviews like "Did not POST, DOA, etc.", that make you want to flag the review as not being helpful. **This is very important** As of this past month (11/07), AMD released new revisions to their top line of processors (starting with the 965 125w). DO NOT PURCHASE THIS BOARD WITH THAT (OR ANY OTHER C3) PROCESSOR. AMD supports these chips in the most current version of the BIOS (v.2002). However, in order to flash your BIOS, you have to have another AM3 processor. The board will NOT boot at all with these new processors. This should be fixed in the next 6 months for this board. I say 6 months for the fact that it takes about that time for the new BIOS to be implemented into current shipments.
Overall Review: This is not a bad board. This is a respected, well built ASUS board that has great features. Not to mention the stellar price. Please don't purchase this board with a new AMD processor (Google C3 for a list of the new processors). Alright ASUS, please don't bother responding to this. I know someone pays you to follow the bad reviews and give the whole "We're sorry you had a bad experience..." script. GO AHEAD! I bet anything ASUS will give the standard cut and paste rebuttal under my post. Waiting...
Item Not As Pictured
Pros: There is likely nothing wrong with the performance of this card. You're buying GTX 465 performance at a great price, but I'm not a fan of the primary con below.
Cons: Look, I'm not a very picky person. I happened to be building a themed micro ATX build/setup that was solid black. However, I received a (great condition) hideous blue PCB version of this card. It's not the nice black that's shown, and thus the site should be changed to reflect the actual color of the deliverable product.
Overall Review: Newegg made things right as usual. It's not often you come across a company that works their tail off to satisfy their customers, and for that they will always be number 1 in my book. Just keep in mind you're not actually buying what's pictured. If you can live with that, buy away. It's a great price.
Pros: I know this is simply a hard drive enclosure, but the quality is amazing. It's sturdy (unlike other flimsy enclosures), and the Firewire 800 ports are a great addition. I know the transfer rates aren't going to be as fast as I like using a 5400 RPM hard drive I pulled out of my Macbook Pro, but the transfer rates are significantly faster than USB 2.0. In fact, using the FW800 port, it's only marginally slower than it was when it was installed in my laptop.
Cons: This isn't much of a con, but I wish the cable was shorter. I keep the hard drive very close to my Macbook Pro so I didn't need that long of a cable.
Overall Review: Overall, this is a great product that is stylish, operates quietly, and gives you a good bang for your buck. 5 eggs all the way.
