Surprisingly Solid for the Price

Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X Flight Stick (PS3 & PC)
Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X Flight Stick (PS3 & PC)

Pros: -Very high quality construction. Doesn't feel flimsy or cheap. -Plug and play installation. Has a driver package but it doesn't appear to be explicitly required. -Throttle and stick can either be attached together or used as two separate pieces. -Supports both PC and PS3 with the flick of a switch. -Buttons can be remapped in custom setups that save to memory in the stick itself. -Using the Home button when attached to a PC is a quick and easy toggle for the rudder twist function.

Cons: -May not have enough buttons to support exclusively controlling with the stick in all games. -Cable that runs between throttle and stick when separated is much too short and hard wired so you can't extend it easily. -Remapping function is confusing and unintuitive. Can only be done on the stick and not through software.

Overall Review: I purchased this stick for Elite: Dangerous and eventually for other space games. I have to say, it's an incredibly good value. It's very rare that you see something this cheap that's also this well built. This feels more solid than the Saitek X-52, despite being less than half the price. Unfortunately, playing Elite: Dangerous purely on the stick is not possible due to it not having quite as many buttons, an advantage the Saitek sticks have. I also wish the cable that ran between the throttle and stick modules was either longer or that they gave you the option to extend it with USB extension cables and the like. I can't use it as far apart as I'd like right now and extending the cable would require taking it apart and obviously I don't want to void the warranty. Beyond this and the confusing button remapping function (which most people won't need anyway), this is the best beginner flight stick I've ever seen and the price is fantastic. I whole heartedly recommend this for space game enthusiasts or if you're just starting out with flight sims.

Good Value If You Bring Your Own Mouse

Lenovo B50-80 80EW02FPUS 15.6" Notebook - Intel Core i5-5200U (2.20 GHz) 4 GB Memory 500 GB HDD Windows 10 Home- Black

Pros: -Speedy CPU. -Fairly good build quality. -Minimal bloatware. -Fantastic keyboard. -Good value for the power.

Cons: -Trackpad is hot garbage (see other thoughts for more). -5,400RPM hard drive is slow. These shouldn't be used at all any more. -Latest drivers on Lenovo support site are older than the ones that come on the image. -Battery is very small and doesn't last super long

Overall Review: At this time, DO NOT buy this laptop if you don't plan to regularly use your own mouse. The trackpad is absolute garbage but not for hardware reason. It will regularly just stop responding for several seconds at a time. There are loads of complaints about this on the Lenovo forums and it's been traced back to a driver issue. If you use the Windows 10 stock Synaptics drivers or use Synaptics own generic drivers from their web site, tracking is perfect. The problem is, both of those drivers disable anything but basic tracking and button functions. You can't pinch zoom, two finger scroll or even tap to click. Once you install Lenovo's own drivers, the tracking problems come back. There are no recent driver updates on the Lenovo site (and in fact, the pre-loaded driver is newer than what's on the web site) and based on what I've read, their support is refusing to acknowledge this is even a problem. If you are going to use your own mouse or are cool with having minimal features through stock drivers, you're fine but as it ships, the trackpad is all but useless. It's a shame because this is a well-built, good value for money laptop otherwise. Personally, I think 5,400RPM hard drives and the prevalence of them are a crime and they shouldn't be used any more because they're a massive performance bottleneck. This machine is OK with it but you can tell it'd be better with 7,200RPM or an SSD. It might be worth plunking down a wee bit extra for a Mushkin Eco 2 SSD to go with it. Also, it comes pre-loaded with McAfee, basically the worst antivirus on the planet. Remove that and install your own or even just use Windows 10's built-in Defender. Anything is better than McAfee.

Price to Performance King

WD_BLACK 4TB SN850X NVMe Internal Gaming SSD Solid State Drive - Gen4 PCIe, M.2 2280, Up to 7,300 MB/s - WDS400T2X0E

Pros: - Blazing fast - Reliable (I've used and sold a number of these and never had one fail) - Doesn't get super hot - Optional Dashboard software provides handy tools when needed

Overall Review: I've used these in my own systems for years and have also sold a number of them to clients. They were the fastest SSDs on the market at some point and while they don't hold the top spot now, they are still far faster than all but the most extreme use cases will need, but are very competitively priced considering that. I've never had one of these drives fail and they always perform well, even under heavy file copy operations. I like the entire WD (now SanDisk) line of SSD but for the performance minded, these are still the kings in my opinion.

The New Airflow King

Fractal Design Meshify 3 ATX mATX Mid Tower PC Case - White Chassis with Clear TG Side Panel
Fractal Design Meshify 3 ATX mATX Mid Tower PC Case - White Chassis with Clear TG Side Panel

Pros: - Incredible airflow - Solid build quality - Magnetically attached top and sides - Supports large GPUs - Smart cable management options

Cons: - No exhaust fans included - At time of writing, the included Momemumn fans are not available for individual purchase - AIO tubes push against glass panel - No reset button or disk activity LED

Overall Review: I'm a bit of a quiet obsessed type of PC builder and for my new system, wanted a case that had great airflow so I wouldn't have to run fans too fast. Gamers Nexus rated this the airflow king, along with the more expensive Fractal Torrent so I tried it out and wasn't disappointed. My new gaming rig is able to keep things cool on mostly air without the fans having to get ramped up hardly at all and you can feel the air movement from the included 3 140mm intake fans. The case also has some smart cable management and routing options behind the right panel that make it easy to keep things tidy and also routed where you want. Both side panels and the top panel are secured with magnets, with the right panel having an option to put in a single screw to secure it in place, presumably for those with real cable nests behind it. While it does come with 3 Momentum 140mm fans for intake, no exhaust fans are included, which is a bit of a shame, especially because as I write this review, the Momentum 14 fans are not available to be purchased individually. Fractal says they are supposed to hit retail soon, but still haven't. I ended up using an AIO cooler that doubles as exhaust so it's a moot point for me, but if you don't want to mix fans, that's something to keep in mind. It also doesn't have a dedicated reset button or disk activity LED. While the reset button is kind of OK because you can achieve the same thing while holding down the power button, the lack of disk activity LEDs is an Apple-inspired plague in the industry that needs to stop. Even though modern SSDs don't rapidly report status the way old hard drives did and instead just slow flash when being accessed, this is still invaluable when troubleshooting, especially during boot issues or issues where you have no display. It saves nothing in cost of goods to omit them and if users don't want it, they can just not plug it in. Overall, this is a fantastic case and if you don't mind spending a bit more for one, this is easy to work on and has best in class airflow. Very happy.

Seasonic Are the Always and Forever GOAT

Seasonic VERTEX GX-1000, 1000W 80+ Gold, ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 Ready, Full-Modular, ATX Form Factor, Low Noise, Premium Japanese Capacitor, 12 Year Warranty, Nvidia RTX 40 Super/50, AMD GPU Compatible
Seasonic VERTEX GX-1000, 1000W 80+ Gold, ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 Ready, Full-Modular, ATX Form Factor, Low Noise, Premium Japanese Capacitor, 12 Year Warranty, Nvidia RTX 40 Super/50, AMD GPU Compatible

Pros: - Ultra reliable - Nearly silent, fan barely spins, even under load - All the connections you need - Very long warranty - One of the longest standing PSU brands in the industry

Overall Review: Even if you've never bought a Seasonic branded power supply (PSU), you very likely have used one as this company is an OEM for many other well known brands, and that's for a reason. These are the most reliable PSUs on the market. The PSU is the most boring part of a computer and many people cheap out on them thinking that power is power, but this is if anything, the one part you should NOT cheap out on as bad power can cause almost any weird issue you can think of. Seasonic has always had outstanding build quality and of the dozens of their units I've used and sold over the years, I've never had a failure. Nonetheless, they also come with a huge warranty just in case. This module model has connectors for anything even a high-end gaming PC needs and under all but the most extreme loads, the fan either never needs to spin or spins very slowly and near silently. Seasonic is my default for PSUs and I recommend them to everyone. The extra money is worth it and if you spend it now on one of these, you'll get a PSU you can take several machines forward.
