Most Favorable Review

Was in market for H.Evo 212, Glad I Picked This Up

Cooler Master TPC 612 - High Performance CPU Cooler with 2 Vapor Chambers and 4 Heatpipes
Cooler Master TPC 612 - High Performance CPU Cooler with 2 Vapor Chambers and 4 Heatpipes

Pros: I had an Corsair H60 all-in-one LCS but it crapped out on me after less than a year. This product keeps temperatures better and is quieter. (I make this comparison because they are the only two after-markets used on this build and are similar in price.) I was hesitant because there are very few reviews online and while most are very positive, some complained about high temperatures. On the other hand the Hyper Evo 212 is well reviewed and highly regarded. My experience is that this is a high quality product (Cooler Master is a top-notch pedigree in my regards) that performs extraordinarily well - especially for a passive cooling system. I would be surprised if the 212 performs any better. With rebate it cost $6 more than the 212 and I would make the purchase again (but would probably reconsider at the retail price-tag, read CONS for reason why...). The cooler keeps my 3.2 GHz CPU overclocked at 3.8 GHz at around 65-70° C under Prime95 full load. This may seem high, and it kind of is, but it is quiet and the cool-down period is phenomenal with a drop from 70 to 40° C in less than 30 seconds. With an overclocked system (CPU, GPU, and memory) and playing BF3 (memory and CPU running at around 90% on average) for hours it never exceeds 55° C. Typically the build idles at 32° C. For the price this is a great product and I would recommend this to any gamer running mid-entry single GPU builds. If you're doing something more CPU intensive (graphics rendering, for example) or have quad-GPU monstrosities you should probably spend more $ and use an LCS. (I recommend a custom Koolance LCS - I've had horrible experiences with all-in-one pump quality). Installation wasn't an issue but my case allows access to MOBO backplane. If your case does not you will have to remove it for installation.

Cons: The "vapor-chamber" is mostly a gimmick and here's why. Once enough thermal energy (heat) is absorbed the liquid phase-changes into a vapor (vaporization) and rises to the top of the chamber. As thermal energy is removed it phase-changes into a much cooler liquid (condensation) were the liquid drains to the bottom of the cooler where more thermal energy can be absorbed and the process repeated. This is all well-and-good and is probably very effective - WHEN THE COOLER IS INSTALLED VERTICALLY - that is, with the CPU below the cooler where the cooled fluid can drain and make full and direct contact with the CPU plate. If the cooler is installed horizontally to the CPU with one half of the chamber higher than the other (as will be the case for most builds), the fluid drains to the lower half of the chamber bypassing the CPU entirely and basically keeping the lower half of the chamber cooler than the top half and absorbing much less heat from the CPU. You can verify this yourself with a temperature laser gun. It is for this reason I'm docking one egg.

Overall Review: I installed a second fan for "push-pull" configuration which slightly impeded my RAM (the stick required a slight tilt). I then tested the configuration with the stock "pull" fan configuration. There was marginal difference with the push-pull configuration and the "push" fan was better used at the top of my case where it can blow over my RAM (and not impede it...).

About What I Expected

Microsoft Xbox 360 Kinect Sensor Bundle w/Gunstringer and Fruit Ninja Kinect
Microsoft Xbox 360 Kinect Sensor Bundle w/Gunstringer and Fruit Ninja Kinect

Pros: -Uhhh...it was cheap -The kids enjoy it -Made the kids appreciate the Wii more and they play it more often

Cons: -Does not work well in small areas -Could write a sitcom on families' experiences with this thing ("Other Thoughts" barely touches on it, thinking about writing a blog)

Overall Review: Do NOT attempt this if you have less than 10 free feet of space in front of your TV. We have 6 feet from our TV to our couch and another 3 feet to the wall - we need at least 10. Configuring so 6 ft. me can play with my 4 ft. kids is impossible with our limited space. Doesn't recognize kids' high-pitched voices, so all I hear since Christmas is "XBOX, PLAY GAME...XBOX...XBOX?". Watching a movie and combing my daughter's hair, picking my nose, etc. causes the Kinect to think I'm waving at it and "pause" icon pops up. The new dash is HORRIBLE (I hate, hate, hate it) and was designed for the Kinect but the scrolling lists (e.g. "featured games") are impossible to select without a remote!?! You have to wait for the list to scroll back to the item you're interested in and then hope the Kinect "selection ring" finishes before it scrolls again! Game choices are limited, and functionality is hit-or-miss. But the kids seem to enjoy it. Don't believe the hype.

It's OK

Logitech USB RF Wireless Ergonomic Wave Combo Keyboard (Refurbished, MK550)
Logitech USB RF Wireless Ergonomic Wave Combo Keyboard (Refurbished, MK550)

Pros: - Keyboard "Wave" is surprisingly comfortable and allows me to be slightly more accurate

Cons: - "Home", "End", "Delete", etc. key grouping is HORRIBLE - Battery life isn't really that much improved - Range is not very good and can be very lag...........gy - Mouse back-end tapers off too soon and is just too small (needs more junk in its trunk).

Overall Review: For some reason my first rating didn't get accepted, but it's OK because it deserves a lower score than I originally gave it. The pros and cons say it all but I must EMPHASIZE THE LAG - it is as bad as the other reviewers have stated. Make sure you have a clean and short line-of-sight to the USB dongle! I use the MK710 combo at work and it is magnitudes better than this combo. Though the "Wave" design is pretty comfortable the keys don't have nearly as comforting feedback as the MK710 little "rounded" buttons. When I leave my job I'm swapping keyboard and mouse :) For $30, you can't go wrong (remember though, clean and short line-of-sight to USB dongle) but don't spend a dime over!

Daughter's Voice

Kinectimals 2: Now with Bears! Xbox 360 Game
Kinectimals 2: Now with Bears! Xbox 360 Game

Pros: - My 6-year-old daughter loves it.

Cons: - None

Overall Review: My 6-year-old daughter loves it and would kill me if I gave it a lower rating. Of course, the novelty wore off after two weeks and she hasn't played it since - but we're not rating a child's attention span, are we?

Decent Game

Dance Central 2 Xbox 360 Game
Dance Central 2 Xbox 360 Game

Pros: - Easy to play - Entertaining

Cons: - None yet

Overall Review: This is the most played game we have for the Kinect. It's easy to play (obviously) and pretty entertaining. If we had more room to play the game it would be played much more frequently.

Very Satisfied

Western Digital Scorpio Black WD2500BEKT 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive Bare Drive
Western Digital Scorpio Black WD2500BEKT 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: - Long lifetime - Quiet - Fast - It's a Western Digital

Cons: - None

Overall Review: I've abused and used this drive for a long time and it has always been durable and reliable. I've had drives that have failed on me in less severe circumstances in half the time that I've had this drive - and it continues to operate as it originally did (and is going to go in my NAS backup drive shortly). You can never go wrong with Western Digital drives!

Very Poor Seller

The item was marked as refurbished but came to me dusty, used, and with food particles in between the keys - there was absolutely no "refurbishing" involved. The box/packaging was barely held together and there was a hole in the box right above the right curly bracket key. I'm reminded of the shoddy packaging, and poor seller, whenever I hit that key - I'm a C/C++ programmer so this is an extremely frequent reminder. 1 sale a day? You don't say...
