CUDA and SPDIF Work!

ASUS GeForce 8400 GS 256MB GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Graphics Card EN8400GS SILENT/HTP/256M
ASUS GeForce 8400 GS 256MB GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Graphics Card EN8400GS SILENT/HTP/256M

Pros: The SPDIF pinout works (just use a CD ROM sound cable) and passes sound through my $6 DVI to HDMI connector to my Samsung 40 inch LCD. CUDA decoding works. Just download the latest K-light codec pack with Media Player Classic Cinema edition, or you can pay for Cyberlink's latest player. I have verified both working. I can stream a 19 GIG mkv over my network and only use about 3% of my CPU. Just incredible. CUDA encoding also works with BADABOOM's encoder...though only at 11 frames per second. I have verified 44 frames per second with a 9600GT.

Cons: Having some trouble getting the overscan corrected with NVIDIA's latest driver on VISTA 32 bit.

Overall Review: You can build a cheap HTPC with this card, VISTA media center is not as efficient decoding movies as my CPU does stay below 20%.

Best bang for buck on dual cores

Intel Pentium E6300 - Pentium Wolfdale Dual-Core 2.8 GHz LGA 775 65W Processor - BX80571E6300
Intel Pentium E6300 - Pentium Wolfdale Dual-Core 2.8 GHz LGA 775 65W Processor - BX80571E6300

Pros: Wolfdale Core @ 2.8, and absolutely best bang for the buck on Dual Cores.

Cons: None for the price.

Overall Review: Helped a buddy build a budget DVD Authoring and video editing workstation. I Overclocked this processor to 3.33 GHz with cheap DDR 800 memory on stock cooler! I set FSB to 333, lowered CPU multiplier to 10 (10 * 333 = 3333), and then changed the motherboard's memory multiplier to 2.4 so I can run the memory at rated speed (2.4 * 333 = 800).

ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro 92mm Ceramic CPU Cooler
ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro 92mm Ceramic CPU Cooler

Pros: Big Heat Sink, didn't require seperate brackets as it fits on the standard AMD Socket 939 setup

Cons: Did come with a speed control.

Overall Review: I have this fan pointed towards the back of the case so it blows air right on through. I plan on installing a speed control on the fan.

Tough Decision...

AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 - Athlon 64 FX San Diego Single-Core 2.6 GHz Socket 939 104W Processor - ADAFX55DAA5BN
AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 - Athlon 64 FX San Diego Single-Core 2.6 GHz Socket 939 104W Processor - ADAFX55DAA5BN

Pros: I upgraded from an Athlon 64 3200 @ 2.0 GHz to this. The multiplier is unlocked people. Just bump it up one notch from 13 to 14 and this will run at 2.8 GHz and higher.

Cons: It's not dual Core. While I saw an increase in performance in proportion to clock speed regarding video rendering. This processor scores well in Audio Encoding.

Overall Review: This came as a combo with a free 250 GIG SATA 2 drive. This is the only reason I didn't go Dual Core. The deal too good to pass up.

Pros: Didn't cost me a dime. It came with as a combo with my Athlon 64 FX-55. New Egg Rocks!

Cons: none

Overall Review: This was the best combo ever.

Takes 2 slots

GIGABYTE GeForce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Support Graphics Card GV-NX76T256D-RH

Pros: It's Quiet, and does not get too hot to touch

Cons: Takes up two slots and it's a little long.

Overall Review: The capacitor on the end bumped into my North Bridge Heatsink on my DFI NF4 Infinity Motherboard (yeah I replaced the noisy fan with the $5 blue heatsink from Zalmon) I ended up rotating the heatsink 45 degrees and all is well.
