Pros: Gorgeous screen, but it's pretty highly directional. Vista seems to run on it without too many problems, and you finally have enough hard drive space for all that extra "stuff." It's a bit big so you'll have to spring for that extra large computer bag, but just remember you are dragging around a big bright 17" screen.

Cons: Toshiba seems to pick the WORST wireless devices for every single one of their laptops. This uses an Atheros AR5007EG chipset. I'm not sure if I should blame Atheros "We don't write the drivers, talk to Toshiba!" or Toshiba "We don't write the drivers, talk to Atheros!" or Vista. It doesn't like to connect to my old belkin and when it does the network throughput is terrible. It seems to connect to our fancy Cisco at work with fewer problems and better throughput.

Overall Review: This had less carpware installed than my last Toshiba, but I still formatted the thing and started from scratch. I wish they'd just install the operating system and be done with it instead of adding in all the junk. All in all it's a great computer, big bright screen, nice and light, and Vista seems to love it.

Pros: Light, DVD reader - CD Burner, 4 USB ports. Has docking station support which I haven't used. Screen is bright and legible. This is the first laptop I've purchased to run side by side with my main desktop and I'm not dissapointed at all - even though my list of gripes may be a bit long. Hardware, A+! Drivers and pointless software are another issue entirely.

Cons: GET MORE MEMORY. This will up the price a bit. Anyone that thinks they can run anything on bloated Windows XP with 256MB is delusional. I got a 1 gig upgrade, it went it in minutes and I've never looked back. Unneeded, buggy, and conflicting drivers along with pointless software and trial versions installed by default. I'm not used to the touchpad and the clicky deals under the touchpad are cheaply made. There is some stupid touchpad software installed that I can't seem to get rid of that does all sorts of junk I don't want it to. I am constantly getting highlights when moving the mouse around as if the clicky deal is locked "on." It was so irritating I broke down and got a portable USB optical mouse. I wish more computer manufacturers would use the IBM/Lenovo eraser-head. The speakers are a joke, but I am using this mainly for business so I could really care less.

Overall Review: Toshiba installs WAY TOO MUCH JUNK SOFTWARE. I had to uninstall the incredibly stupid Toshiba wireless driver as they were arguing with the Intel proset wireless drivers - both installed by default. They had a bluetooth stack installed even though the laptop doesn't have a bluetooth device. This will lead you to much head scratching as you try to talk using bluetooth. I still can't get rid of the stupid AOL logo on my desktop. It seems to reappear every time I nuke it. There are a billion useless utilities and trial versions that clog up the system tray and desktop. There are two touchpad drivers neither of which appear to do anything other than mess up the touchpad functionality. If I got this laptop again I'd save the drive image just in case, then format the thing and let Windows XP figure out the hardware. Whatever windows couldn't figure out I'd then install the toshi drivers for. This would also free up a ton of disk space used as backing storage for emergency repair.
