ZALMAN Reserator XT BK Black Reserator (Reservoir+Radiator+Water Pump) Water Cooling System
ZALMAN Reserator XT BK Black Reserator (Reservoir+Radiator+Water Pump) Water Cooling System

Pros: My first liquid cooling attempt, and it was very easy. AMD 5200, Asus 8800GTX, Asus Crosshair mobo. I also bought the 8800GTX water block. CPU under load (both cores) went from 67C to 39C; idle went from 47C to 30C. Note that the new peak load temp is lower than the old idle temp. 8800GTX under load (ATI Tool) went from 88C to 53C; idle from 77C to 45C. Pretty incredible. The metal machining and finish are excellent, and although it's not silent, it's extremely quiet--quieter than my PC Power & Cooling 750W Silencer. I have never heard the auto-control fan speed up because of too much heat.

Cons: The GTX/Ultra water block is attached with a bunch of thumb screws, and they stick out of the back of the card. On my Asus Crosshair motherboard, these screwheads interfere with a capacitor on the board, meaning I can only use one of my two PCIe x16 slots. This would be a problem if you wanted to cool two 8800GTXs with this. Otherwise no issues at all.

Overall Review: Hands down the best investment I've ever made for my rig: allowed me to remove all of my noisy fans save for a single (silent) 800RPM rear exhaust to pull cool air from the vents in the front of the case across the mobo and oout the back.

big and loud

PC Power & Cooling T1KWSR 1000W Continuous @ 50°C EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply
PC Power & Cooling T1KWSR 1000W Continuous @ 50°C EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Massively powerful, great build quality, perfectly reliable.

Cons: It's the loudest power supply I've every owned. And it's not merely a loud whirring noise... it's overlaid with a throbbing note, which makes it even more irritating. The solution, of course is to have a couple of video cards in your case that are even louder, like, say, 2900XTs (which I bought at the same time as this). Con #2: It's absolutely enormous. It took way too long for me to figure out how to get it into my Thermaltake Armor tower.

Fast & stable

SPARKLE Calibre Series GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 1536MB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card X580

Pros: Stable and cool-running with liquid cooling. Easy to remove the fan. Super easy to overclock. Running stable for several months at: Core: 935 MHz Memory: 4200 MHz Shader: 1870 MHz 1125 mV

Cons: Some flakiness about detecting my monitors (both fairly new: Dell U3011, and a 23" LG), but finally got it sorted. Never really figured it out, just kept trying dvi cable/plug combinations for the two monitors.

Overall Review: I bought two at a brick & mortar store because I had an itch to scratch, didn't feel like waiting for newegg. Also bought two DangerDen blocks (DD-GTX580, copper base). I normally hate buying card and block separately, as I've been burned before, but this was a piece of cake. Max temps in my 80F office are 55-56C in BFBC2.

Simply amazing

OCZ RevoDrive X2 PCI-E 240GB PCI-Express x4 MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) OCZSSDPX-1RVDX0240

Pros: Astounding performance, easy to install and setup

Cons: Had to download the driver, and set it up manually following instructions on OCZ's site. Really not a con, just a minor annoyance. OCZ's online instructions worked perfectly though.

Overall Review: I use this for several VMs I use for software development stuff. C++ compilation speed leaves me speechless. I just cannot believe how fast it is. The default Atto benchmark shows 730+ MB/sec read and write for my drive. I've never owned anything like this before. What an amazing device. I am using it with Asus P6X58D mobo, bios rev. 1002, i7 980X @ 4.14GHz, Corsair 12GB dominator kit CMD12GX3M6A1600C8, and 2x PowerColor 5870 cards (the 2 cards and the revodrive are running at 16x-8x-8x, no diff in 3d benchmarks compared to when the cards were at 16x-16x). Couple of Intel X25M SSDs, couple of velociraptors. I am NOT using this as my boot drive. Just don't trust it yet. Only my VMs.

CORSAIR DOMINATOR 12GB (6 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMD12GX3M6A1600C8

Pros: Matched set, glossy blue paint, fan (not using it tho)

Cons: None yet

Overall Review: Using the XMP profile for 1600MHz, extremely solid so far with i7980X at 4.16GHz. Used for gaming and software dev. Probably the smoothest RAM experience I've ever had. Zero trouble, zero drama.

CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850 W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Power, modular design, etc.

Cons: Faint but mildly annoying noise from the fan. Not a normal fan noise, see below.

Overall Review: I RMA'd the first one because of an odd whirring noise coming from the unit. Almost sounded like a bad bearing in the fan. I figured I could probably live with it, but I was sure it was a defect, so I RMA'd it. Replacement unit makes the identical noise. I know it's identical because I have both here today (Newegg will refund the purchase of the second when they receive the original one... next best thing to cross-shipping). So now I just have to live with it. The design is nice enough to overcome this issue. But I have read a few other reviews complaining of an odd noise from the unit. I'm surprised more haven't complained.
