Great Upgrade

HT OMEGA eClaro 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Express x1 Interface Sound Card
HT OMEGA eClaro 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Express x1 Interface Sound Card

Pros: One of the best computer upgrades I've purchased in awhile. I had been wondering if it was time (post-Vista) to get back into a real sound card. Wonder no more! This card is fanastic. I built two identical computers, one for me and one for the wife. I wasn't sure about the sound card, so I only ordered one. That allowed me to directly compare the sound, same songs, between the Realtek ALC889 on the Asus P8P67 Deluxe and this HT|Omega eClaro card. The difference is night and day. Individual notes on a piano are vibrant and sharp. Horns are brassy and warm. Guitar strings are resonant and trail off slowly. Solo instruments, in particular, are just dazzling. The Realtek onboard sound, now that I had something to compare it to, sounded like it was muffled, muted, like it was being played through a blanket. Great in games. Great in voice chat. From roaring dragons to low rumbling caverns to the sound pure silence and dripping water. Awesome.

Cons: Probably need to buy one for the wife now. Making me seriously consider taking the time to rerip my whole music collection to lossless WMA. Might even need to upgrade my old Klipsch speakers. Now we're talkin' money. And I guess it's worth mentioning that it costs about as much as a good motherboard. There's a reason it sounds this much better that the "free" sound. One Egg... had to install drivers twice on Windows 7 64-bit to get it fully installed. Couldn't find any way to make 2-channel music play through all four of my quadrophonic speakers, just the front two. Software drivers a little obscure in general.

Overall Review: Brand new computer and I found I spent my first Saturday morning just listening to my music collection again and upgrading songs to 5 stars. Hearing things I never heard before. Yes, it's time to treat yourself to a real sound card again and this PCIE card from HT Omega will impress you.

Some Trouble

nMEDIAPC i18-C68 USB 3.0 7-in-1 SDXC Card Reader
nMEDIAPC i18-C68 USB 3.0 7-in-1 SDXC Card Reader

Pros: Once installed, this drive seems to work fine and the USB3.0 speeds are very nice for transferring pictures from my digital camera, etc. The cord to connect to the motherboard was plenty long enough to get around my video card and reach the plug-in on the board, even with my 90 degree rotated Silverstone case.

Cons: Had some trouble during installation, where the drive was installed, but would not work. I resolved this by looking in Device Manager and noticing there were two drivers for "Renesas USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller" and the second was not working properly. It wasn't until I uninstalled both of these drivers and scanned for hardware changes that everything worked properly. Once installed, there are two feature I'm not too happy with. One is a red LED that stays lit, even when the computer is off. The second is that memory cards have to be inserted upside down; not a problem, but not very intuitive.

Overall Review: All in all, I'm glad to see a memory drive that finally takes advantage of the USB3.0 plug on my motherboard. This just could have been better.

Okay Quality, Volume too Low for me to Use

KEF M100 Hi-Fi In-ear Headphones (Racing Blue)
KEF M100 Hi-Fi In-ear Headphones (Racing Blue)

Pros: Seems to be pretty nice quality in construction. Purchased these on a Newegg flash sale for only $25. Built in microphone works well for making phone calls.

Cons: I thought I was getting a pair of $150 ear buds for $25, but these really are not at that level of quality. The audio was good, but not really impressive, especially on bass notes. As noted, the inline volume controls only work for iPhones. They did nothing on my Windows Phone. I'm not sure if that's the reason, but even with my phone on full volume the earbuds were not loud enough to be heard with my lawn mower running. I had to go inside and grab my $20 Skull Candy earbuds, damaged as they are from years of use. Overall, these failed to work for me on the task where I wear earbuds most.

Overall Review: Might just be me, but the earbuds also weren't that comfortable. The medium pads slipped out of my ears from time to time, while the small pads (supplied) weren't comfortable.

Samsung Magician a Must

SAMSUNG 850 PRO 2.5" 256GB SATA III 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7KE256BW
SAMSUNG 850 PRO 2.5" 256GB SATA III 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7KE256BW

Pros: Exceedingly fast drive, noticeably faster than the OCZ Vertex 3 SSD that I replaced.

Cons: Sells at a price premium right now, due to the change in manufacturing technology and its status as the fastest SSD yet tested.

Overall Review: Important Note: The SSD will run fast, if you just install it, but it will only get the speeds they advertise if you run their Samsung Magician software (easy) and optimize everything for speed. I got about 40% faster benchmark numbers after doing this.

Poor Quality

Green Project E-T0773 Remanufactured Magenta Ink Cartridge Replacement for Epson T077320
Green Project E-T0773 Remanufactured Magenta Ink Cartridge Replacement for Epson T077320

Pros: This cartridge actually worked.

Cons: Ordered several cartridges. One came in as the wrong color. While this one worked, I had 3 others (out of the 7 tried) that did not. They were all reported as unrecognized by my Epson RX595 printer.

Overall Review: Complete waste of money. No company contact information on the package to even complain to.
