Really Nice AM3+ Board

ASRock 890GX PRO3 AM3+ AMD 890GX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard
ASRock 890GX PRO3 AM3+ AMD 890GX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Full size ATX size – not one of the typical cut-off boards. AM3+ CPU socket (black). Power and reset buttons. CMOS reset button on the back so you don't have to use a jumper or remove the battery when overclocking. 5 fan headers, but only one is 4-pin. Nice distance between RAM and CPU sockets. 2 USB 3.0 slots. Heatsink on MOSFETs. Atheros gigabyte Ethernet controller for those who hate Realtek. 32 mb American Megatrends Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) BIOS with GUI. (first one I've used)

Cons: Only 5 SATA connectors Only 4 USB 2.0 ports 5 audio ports instead of six (None of the things I've listed here are problems for me. I'm just pointing them out in case it matters to others.)

Overall Review: I've been using the 890GX PRO3 for a week now without any problems. The BIOS has a GUI interface so you can use your mouse to navigate. It's pretty straight-forward to use except that I haven't been able to find a way to change the CPU multiplier directly. I love that there is much more room between the CPU socket and the RAM slots than any other AMD board I've used. I'm using a 92mm cooler, with the fan facing down, and there is a good 1/2” of space between the side of the cooler and the first RAM slot. I think a 120mm cooler would also work without interfering with the first RAM slot. The 890GX PRO3 is supposed be compatible with AMD's upcoming line of AM3+ processors, but we'll have to see if this is actually the case. Most Critical Review

Almost Useless

Irwin 2078719 4-Piece SAE Quick-Adjusting Wrench Tray Set
Irwin 2078719 4-Piece SAE Quick-Adjusting Wrench Tray Set

Pros: Machined well and operate smoothly.

Cons: Almost useless if you are working with anything that requires any pressure to turn -- basically anything tight or corroded. The jaws have a 'toothed' system that lock in predetermined positions. These positions, however, are too loose and you end up slipping off and rounding the corners of whatever you're trying to loosen/tighten. It's also virtually impossible to adjust the wrenches in awkward and hard to reach places using only one hand. Thankfully, this isn't a problem for standard 'screw-type' adjustable wrenches.

Overall Review: I've used hand tools for over 40 years and these have to be the best made useless tools I've ever encountered. I don't know what the intended market was for these wrenches, but it certainly isn't for the serious maintenance professional. I supposed they would do in a pinch in an emergency tool kit for a car or something.

Great For Light Duty Use

Stanley 77-188 S2 Laser Level Square
Stanley 77-188 S2 Laser Level Square

Pros: Easy to use even without reading the instructions. Light-weight but seems sturdy enough. Built-in bubble type levels. Laser beams are bright enough for general use, but diminish in bright sunlight.

Cons: Adhesive strips are 'putty-like' and won't last as long as the tool.

Overall Review: I might try double-sided carpet tape to replace the adhesive strips.

Very Satisfied

ASRock 890FX DELUXE5 AM3+ AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
ASRock 890FX DELUXE5 AM3+ AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Socket AM3+ (also compatible with AM3 processors) 3-pin and 4-pin CPU fan headers (I'm running 2 fans off of the 4-pin header without issue) 3 chassis fan headers 1 power fan header Floppy header IDE header 4 USB 3.0 (2X front header + 2X back) 2 USB 2.0 headers (2X each for a total of 4) 8 SATA 6Gb/s headers Graphical UEFI BIOS Interface XFast USB Technology provides faster transfer rates Power and reset buttons Posts incredibly fast; UEFI screen appears almost instantly after hitting Del key Great overclock options Turbo UCC technology to unlock CPU cores Plenty of distance between CPU socket and RAM sockets to allow for larger aftermarket heatsinks with 120mm fans. Coolest running Northbridge heatsink I’ve used in a very long time. Most you can't hold your finder on for more than a short while but this one stays nice and cool.

Cons: The one I got needed a BIOS update to run FX series processors. I easily updated mine from v1.4 to v1.6 and then later to v 1.8 without any problems while using the Windows utility available on the ASRock website. Not a CON, but for those interested here's my hardware: Corsair 600T ASRock 890FX Deluxe 5 AMD 1090T Antec KÜHLER 620 2 – COUGAR CF-V12HP Vortex (in push/pull on KÜHLER 620) G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series (4 x 4GB) DDR3 Model F3-12800CL9Q-16GBXL MSI N460GTX Twin Frozr II Video Card Crucial M4 128 GB (System) 2 – Hitachi HDS721010CLA332 - 0F10383 1TB drives (1 data & 1 backup) 2 – DVD read/write drives Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Overall Review: Since there isn’t much difference between the 890FX and 990FX motherboards I decided to go with this one. I wanted something that could handle my 1090T, as well as AM3+ CPUs. I’ve been running this board for four months without any problems. I tried a FX-4100 that I put into another build just to see how it would work and it had no problems. (Overclocked it to 4.4 stable before switching back to 1090T.) For those complaining about this board freezing up, mine only did it when I pushed the overclock too high on the 1090T. I would also get numerous BSOD errors, but backing off a bit on the overclock resolved both issues. Mosfet cooler does not interfere with the KÜHLER 620 radiator I'm using in a push/pull configuration with 2 fans inside a Corsair 600T case. Works with G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series (4 x 4GB) DDR3 Model F3-12800CL9Q-16GBXL and G.SKILL Sniper (4 x 4GB) DDR3 Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR.

SeaSonic SS-750KM3 750W ATX12V V2.3 / EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: - Modular - Very Quiet -- I never hear it over the case fans in my Corsair 600T - Gold Certified - Active PFC - Best molex connectors I've ever used! - Sleeved cables - Way more cables than I need

Cons: - Price, but if you want one of the best you're going to have to pay. - Velvet storage bags are very nice but unnecessary

Overall Review: This is by far the best power supply I've ever used or encountered. Very quiet and (hopefully) reliable. Modularity is nice if you don't have a case with good cable management behind the motherboard. I bought this because I was tired of listening to my power supply scream like a jet engine. Maybe I'm getting old, but noise annoys. Well worth the money I paid (and I'm a cheapskate). Very Happy With My Investment

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition - Phenom II X6 Thuban 6-Core 3.2 GHz Socket AM3 125W Desktop Processor - HDT90ZFBGRBOX

Pros: * 6 cores - Great for multitasking. * Easily overclockable - Mine's running @ 4.0GHz (1.35v). * No issues installing in an AM2+ motherboard after first updating BIOS. (Currently using an AM3+ motherboard.) * Excellent price/performance versus Intel. (I'd rather spend my money on other components.) I didn't get my 1090T from Newegg, but I figured this is the best place to leave a review. I've been using this chip since December 2010 when I installed it to replace a 9600BE. I was already using an SSD in my system so I wasn't expecting much of a performance boost -- man was I wrong. All I did was remove the 9600BE, install the 1090T (no other hardware changes), and hit the power button. It was like a night versus day difference in performance. Boot time was much faster, programs load incredibly faster. Encoding video and audio is amazingly faster. All this before I overclocked it!

Cons: * Loud heatsink/fan. * Price dropped $50 since I got it. (Not a con if you haven't bought one yet.)

Overall Review: I got the 1090T with the intention of upgrading to a Bulldozer CPU after about a year. Now it's almost a year -- and BD is almost released -- but I'm so happy with this CPU that I just might wait another year or more before upgrading. My system: Corsair 600T. ASRock 890FX Deluxe 5. AMD 1090T. Antec Kuhler H2O 620 with 2 Cougar CF-V12HP Vortex 12CM in a push/pull configuration. 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws (F3-12800CL9Q-16GBXL). MSI 460 GTX Twin Frozr II. SeaSonic X750 power supply. 128GB Crucial M4 (system drive). 2 - 1TB Hitachi hard drives (data & backup). 2 - DVD drives. 2 - HP ZR24W monitors.
