First Impressions: Great
Pros: I just received my new A650 IS from Newegg, and it is a very solidly-built and easy to use camera. Image stabilization works much better than I would have believed, even at the maximum telephoto of 6x4=24 ! I have not had time to fully explore the camera, but it seems great and Newegg's price and delivery were the best available. Image storage and retreival are lightning fast using the 150x SD card I also bought. The articulating LCD is an important feature to me. 12 Megapixels is more than enough. The use of 4 AA batteries gives fast flash recharge and long life. Camera startup and shutdown times are very quick. The zoom and autofocus are also very fast.
Cons: This A Series camera is a little bigger than the currently popular pocket cameras. It is also a little bigger than Canon's other A-Series cameras. But it is still small enough to carry around in a belt-worn case.
Overall Review: More technically in-depth reviews are starting to be available on the internet for this new model. Perhaps I will update my impressions in a few months, after really working with this camera a while under various conditions. But I am just a casual hobbyist who wanted to upgrade from my 2 Megapixel.
Does Not Work
Pros: None. I wish I could give zero starts, but the site demands at least one to indicate I responded.
Cons: Acronis True Image simply does not work. Sure, it will APPEAR to be making backups. But the real test comes when trying to RESTORE a backup. Safety tip: Don't try to test it unless you already have a backup saved from a reputable company. When your restore from Acronis doesn't work, you will then also discover that there is no support. Get a support ticket and then stare at your blank computer screen until you get tired of trying.
Overall Review: Many people get a backup software and make backups, but go for years without ever having to actually restore from a crash. Test this on your system ASAP if you have it....but make sure you have another standby backup image from a reputable company first.
Very High Quality
Pros: Very high quality aluminum case. Easy to assemble. Blue LED is visible but not intrusive. High quality cables & power supply.
Overall Review: Wow! This is really a nice, high quality, solid aluminum case. I slid an old drive in, everything aligned perfectly. fastened the screws and plugged it in. Windows Vista recognized it immediately and I am running it with USB 3,0 speeds. A real bargain. Thanks, Newegg!
Works exactly as advertized
Pros: Cloning software included. Works exactly as intended.
Cons: My HP MOBO is so old that AHCI mode is not available, so I only get less than half the advertized speeds. But that is not the drive's fault. It is still much faster than my old mechanical drive. Noticeably snappier. Works reliably under Windows Vista. No problem rebooting after cloning and unhooking old drive.
Overall Review: Drive is VERY light. It didn't seem worth the effort to "mount" it mechanically in my computer case, so I have just left it hanging by the connection cables and lightly stuck to the external surface of the drive bays with double-sided tape. .
