ASUS K8U-X 754 ULi M1689 ATX AMD Motherboard
ASUS K8U-X 754 ULi M1689 ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Narrow form factor. Easy setup. Name brand equipment. Stable running.

Cons: Very limited overclocking capabilities in bios.

Overall Review: This board is very compact, but everything is accesable. Does not have many jumpers, or options. Bios makes nearly all the settings for you, so it is easy to set up. But that means there are not very many things you can set manually if you want to change something.

ASUS M2N-MX SE AM2 NVIDIA GeForce6100 / nForce430 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
ASUS M2N-MX SE AM2 NVIDIA GeForce6100 / nForce430 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Small form factor, nVidia chipset. This is the smallest AM2 board I have found.

Cons: As several other reviewers have said, this board would only post with slot A empty. Anything in the first ram slot resulted in no post. However, after updating the BIOS to v403, both slots are now working, and it is running with 2G of ram.

Overall Review: Why ASUS would release a board with faulty bios is beyond me. However, if you are willing to upgrade the bios yourself, it can be made to work.

A4Tech X6-60D Black 4 Buttons 1 x Wheel USB or PS/2 Wired Laser Glaser Mouse
A4Tech X6-60D Black 4 Buttons 1 x Wheel USB or PS/2 Wired Laser Glaser Mouse

Pros: This mouse has a very nice feel to it. It tracks fast, accurate, and precise. Requires very little effort to move. The red double click button is addicting. The thin wire causes very little resistance.

Cons: It's out of stock, or I'd order another.

Overall Review: The flat black colored surfaces you can see in the picture are a "swede velvety" texture which is much more ergonomic and pleasant to touch than plastic.

fast and cool

AMD Athlon 64 4000+ - Athlon 64 San Diego Single-Core 2.4 GHz Socket 939 89W Processor - ADA4000DKA5CF
AMD Athlon 64 4000+ - Athlon 64 San Diego Single-Core 2.4 GHz Socket 939 89W Processor - ADA4000DKA5CF

Pros: runs very fast and very cool

Cons: the OEM packaging is very poor. Mine came with just about every pin bent. I'm sure if I had tried to return the device, it would have been rejected, but that is how it came.

Overall Review: I dogged it one egg, because the way it is packaged is scarry. Took me a long time to straighten the pins enough to make it fit into the socket. I have no idea how random pins on the interior of the chip got bent. I can understand how the outside pins bent when it banged arround in the loose package...It works now though and works well!

Hanns-G HW-191DPB 19" WXGA+ 1440 x 900 D-Sub, DVI-D Built-in Speakers LCD Monitor
Hanns-G HW-191DPB 19" WXGA+ 1440 x 900 D-Sub, DVI-D Built-in Speakers LCD Monitor

Pros: This is a very nice monitor at an excellent price. It is easy to set up. It has DVI and Analog input. From the front, you can't tell it has speakers. The appearance is very neat and professional. The screen feels solid.

Cons: It took me about two hours of use to get used to the widescreen format. Now I love it. The control buttons are on the side which leaves the front clean and uncluttered, but they are harder to fined and use, especially if the room is dark.

Overall Review: I like this monitor alot, the screen itself is very solid, however, it is a bit sloppy at the base connection. The loosness in the connection could be easily fixed with a little bit of epoxy, or super glue. Then you couldn't remove the base and it would stop any shake (but how often do you remove the base once it is set up).

ViewSonic Optiquest Series Q9b-2 19" SXGA 1280 x 1024 D-Sub Built-in Speakers LCD Monitor
ViewSonic Optiquest Series Q9b-2 19" SXGA 1280 x 1024 D-Sub Built-in Speakers LCD Monitor

Pros: Easy to use, easy to setup, bright colors, fast response. Built in speakers cleanly replace desk speakers if you don't need high volume or mega quality sound.

Cons: It is a budget monitor from a name brand suplier. Mine ha a pixle that will occasionaly be green on a black background. Pushing gently on the screen usually corrects it. It is very intermitant. The other day, there was a pixle displaying red on the black background in a diferent quadrant of the screen. Again, pushing on the screen restored it to black. I have never had these sort of problems with any other LCD monitor that I've used.

Overall Review: This is a budget monitor put out by a name brand. I think ViewSonic's main line is very good, but this budget version is somewhat questionable. I think there are probably better budget monitors from lesser known brands. In anycase, this monitor is much better than the CRT it replaced.
