No problems with ASRock K8S8X MB

APEVIA ATX-CW500WP4 500 W ATX Power Supply
APEVIA ATX-CW500WP4 500 W ATX Power Supply

Comments: I bought this power supply thinking that I was having power issues in my system. It turns out that I was having an overheating problem, so a new power supply didn't fix my PC. Irrespective of that, the power supply is quiet and inexpensive and powerful at 500Watts. It works fine with my ASRock K8S8X motherboard with AMD 64 2800+ 754 socket cpu, two hard drives, two DVD drives, and an AGP X800XL video card.

SAMSUNG 22" WSXGA+ LCD Monitor 2 ms (GTG) D-Sub, DVI-D 226BW
SAMSUNG 22" WSXGA+ LCD Monitor 2 ms (GTG) D-Sub, DVI-D 226BW

Pros: Relatively good color gamut for this type of panel with excellent response time. Good price for this performance and screen size!

Cons: Base only rotates and tilts.

Overall Review: I spent an evening playing ut2004 on this screen and am really impressed. This is the first LCD that I've personally owned; it replaced a 21" P1110 CRT. The CRT was better for gaming, but really, the difference is barely noticeable. In fact, I think my gaming improved on the LCD. The image is better than other 22" LCDs that I've seen. It's worth the extra money to get this screen over the cheaper 5ms 22" LCDs.

Pretty reasonable screen

CHIMEI 22" TFT LCD WSXGA+ LCD Monitor 5 ms D-Sub, DVI-D CMV 221D-NSC
CHIMEI 22" TFT LCD WSXGA+ LCD Monitor 5 ms D-Sub, DVI-D CMV 221D-NSC

Pros: The price. For a screen this size, and of this general quality, it's a very good deal. For gaming, the response time is good. No dead pixels. Crisp text. A very good general use monitor!

Cons: Viewing angle isn't very wide, but it's adequate. If your primary use of this monitor is for professional photo editing, it won't satisfy your needs.

good performance and price

ASUS P5NSLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI Intel Edition ATX Intel Motherboard
ASUS P5NSLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI Intel Edition ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: I just installed this board along with a sata 3.0 HD, E6300 Intel cpu, Connect3D X1900XT pci-e video card and CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 675 (PC2 5400) Unbuffered System Memory Model TWIN2X2048-5400c4 and it worked with absolutely no complications. I like the Asus plug adapters for the HD led and all those other mb connectors-that saved me 10 mins during the installation. So far, the system is very stable and fast. Good manual.

Cons: None

Comments: I was having serious overheating problems with an X800XL 256Mb AGP video card. With the stock cooler, the card would run up to 65C and make my PC spontaneously shut down after about 15 mins of game play. My computer overheating problem is partly due to a case that has poor airflow over the GPU and partly due to the stock cooler on the video card. I've been using some ATI tools to monitor temperatures during gaming and found that the Zalman cooler consistently lowered the operating temperature by 10degC over the stock cooler. I still have a case that's running too hot, but my system is certainly more stable now than it was before. The radial fin design employed by Zalman is superior to most other heatsink/fan configurations in both its cooling effectiveness and noise profile. They really are the best choice for the price.

Update the firmware!

Comments: I gave this drive a 4-star rating because Pioneer has lousy firmware and has not addressed the sensitivity of this drive to certain media. I was a bit upset when I installed the drive and went to burn with Verbatim DVD+R 16x media, using DVDdecoder, only to find that it would hang at the end of the burn and completely lock up the drive! Had to reboot every time. Made lots of coasters. I found that the problem was actually common with this drive and many CAV DVD+R media. I even tried updating the firmware from Pioneer's website, but it did not fix the problem. BUT here is a fix if you have the same problem I did...update with the firmware from Buffalo 850 (link provided) and use a 3rd -party flash program like DVRupdate v0.9. Now the drive is working great. I make DVD's that work fine in my other player in just 6 mins. I'd give the drive fewer stars if it were expensive, but it was less than $50. So overall, I think it's good. Ripping with DVDShrink is a little pokey, taking about 40 mins on my machine for a full DVD.
