ROCKS!! Never an issue, if...
Pros: ..you know what you're doing! For those who know how, playback isn't an issue. This product does what is says! It reads Blu-ray and HD DVD without a hitch. It burns as quickly as anything else out there, but I'm not going to THIS unit for that task anyway!
Overall Review: As I stated before, if you know what you're doing, playback of either format is not a problem. HD requires a system with wubbles, mostly in the video card area. One word to future buyers, if you're running Vista, make sure you exceed the 'recommended' requirements by a good deal or you'll see problems, particularly on Blu-rays. That's the voice of experience. I moved back to XP on my media rigs.
Look elswhere for NAS
Pros: Looks sharp, easy to setup and use
Cons: Compact design doesn't allow for proper cooling, too many issue that are 'known' and 'being worked on' for later firmware release.
Overall Review: I had a 406e and the design allowed for very, very little airflow. Drives always ran at >45C causing a lot of drive problems. Your better off with another NAS solution.
So far, so great!
Pros: Using two of these drives in a RAID 0, 128GB setup w/ quad core 9550, 8GB RAM, Win 7 64bit: On initial install (per HDTune Pro 4.01 trial): Min: 166.8 MB/sec. Max: 205.3 MB/sec. Avg: 188.0 MB/sec. Access: 0.3 ms One month later, same configuration, original OS install (HDTune 2.55): Min: 125.8 MB/sec. Max: 210.8 MB/sec. Avg: 192.3 MB/sec. Access: 0.3 ms I'm considering a 3rd so I can RAID 5 my setup. Ooooh, it might prove too tempting to resist.
Cons: That they're not cheaper yet!
Overall Review: This is the only SSD setup that I'm running as a RAID 0. I've got SSD's in all my machines, including my laptop and they're all working out great. Kingston seems to be offering the best bang for the buck! I'll definitely be putting the longevity to the test! At these speeds, you'll never go back to mechanical drives again!
So far, so good, but I can't find out...
Pros: Silicon Image chipset, compact, low profile bracket included. Looking forward to running some drives on it soon.
Cons: None, yet.
Overall Review: I wish the documentation stated the full possibilities of the card, I know it will communicate with port multipliers but is that on both ports, just one? I don't know and can't find out. Port multiplier arrays aren't cheap, I'd rather not buy two and discover I can only use one.
Not enterprise class...
Pros: ..but then it's not supposed to be. Too many so-called techies want this to replace their 4 and 5 figure RAID arrays, just to wind up disappointed. I'm loving this box! From unbox to fully functional RAID 5 in less than 2 hours (4 x 500GB). All I had to do was install drives, plug in, and turn on. Excellent media server. Will be replacing fan though, it doesn't move enough air to suit me.
Cons: None, so far. Time will tell, but I think this unit will be working out great!
Overall Review: Don't buy this unit for an office UNLESS you have <10 people and will only use it as a File/Print server. Transfer speeds won't keep up with large files.
