Keep up the good fight!!

Newegg's Fight Patent Trolls T-Shirt
Newegg's Fight Patent Trolls T-Shirt

Pros: I've been keeping up on Newegg's continuing battle with patent trolls for some time, most recently in last month's outstanding Ars Technica article (search: Ars Technica & Newegg) and yesterday's piece in the Huffington Post on this very T-shirt. Newegg is protecting both business start-ups and is keeping the internet free by battling patent trolls for us. Read up and learn, and then do your part and support the cause! Thank you for all you do, Lee Cheng and Newegg!! =)

Cons: None - we all win.

Excellent so far (with a hiccup), but no good with Win XP

Seagate Desktop HDD ST4000DM000 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
Seagate Desktop HDD ST4000DM000 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: I've had these for about a month now, but when I first got two of these drives, Windows 7 did have some trouble recognizing them properly, claiming that they were only 1.63TB (thereabouts). I struggled with this for a week or so using a slew of programs to figure it out (Seatools for DOS, Seagate's Diskwizard, some Linux tools, etc.), and then through Seagate's forum, I was tipped to the utility HDAT2 Lite, as it turned out to be an HPA enabled drive. Disabled it with the utility, and it's been great ever since. Be sure to check out Seagate's forums for some excellent assistance if there's any problems.

Cons: Seagate claims that their prog Disk Wizard will help a Win XP machine see a drive larger than 2.2TB. I ran it, and even Disk Wizard only saw a 1.63TB drive, which obviously wasn't going to work. Seagate's forums (forums.seagate.com) has a thread with info to help overcome this limitation, but I just decided to upgrade my XP machine to Win 7, and the 4TB drive was immediately seen.

Overall Review: These are my first Seagate drives and am pleased with them so far. Had them in a Synology DS413j NAS for awhile, and they performed perfectly.

Works with my 4TB Seagates!

Rosewill RX-358 V2 SLV - Silver, 3.5" SATA to USB & eSATA External Enclosure with Internal 80 mm Fan

Pros: Looking through the external drive enclosure section I was hoping to find one that worked with 4TB drives and am glad I found a review here that said so, so I gave it a shot. Been backing up some files to it flawlessly for several hours now with no disconnects or other problems. Easy HD install into the unit, and Win 7 saw the drive immediately. Comes with an eSATA bracket for the back panel of your comp, cord attatched that goes to an internal SATA port. My transfer speeds with this connection are currently running about 87MB/s. Fairly solid metal construction, with some plastic side panels. I've left one of the metal sides off just for the sake of keeping the drive cool, not that I've yet had any issues with heat. Very happy with this unit, and so glad I picked up two!

Cons: None so far.

Overall Review: For the price, you really can't lose picking one or more of these up.
