Sold on Hitachi
Pros: This is my third Hitachi SATA drive I have purchased from new egg. All three are still running great. None of them have been noisy at all. You can hear them when they acess the data, but frankly, I like to know when my hardware is working. (Ya, I use flowmaster mufflers on my vehicles also, except for the long distance cruisers.)
Cons: Lets see, they are not bigger for less money? Seriously, BACK UP your data as often as it is valuable to you on any drive. They spin real fast and the heads fly over the surface closer than you can really imagine. Got data? It needs to be in 2 or 3 different places unless you just don't care if you lose it.
Overall Review: My company sells the large Hitachi arrays under our brand name, so I knew that a lot of your data is stored on Hitachi by large, demanding US companies. Also, I know that the Quality and Research and Development was in every drive. :) - and no, I don't make any money off Hitachi, wish I did!
Failed at 1 year almost to the day
Pros: Fast for not a lot of $. Tried Riva Tuner, most of the disabled stuff was pure junk and properly disabled at the factory on this chip? Unlucky? Maybe so, but unless you like artifacts . . . Upgraded my power supply before I installed it so I am confident of my power. It did overclock a little with Biostar VGA overclock utility.
Cons: I read the reviews and because they say the card runs hot I replaced the heat sink with EVERCOOL EC-VC-RHC Ever Lubricate VGA Cooler - Retail Item #: N82E16835119064 (that worked great) After I had it like 1 day less than a year if you consider the shipping time, the card went completely belly up. Since I could not locate the factory fan setup Biostar refused to honor my warranty and I had to pay them $3X for out of warranty repair. That make 2 out of 3 biostar parts I have bought that have died (bought 2 mother boards and one died at about 7 months: dead stock setup and never touched after proper anti-static install 7 months prior) So for my money I will go with a vendor that honors their warranty and does not need it in the first place.
Overall Review: Biostar claimed larger heat sinks cause flexing and breaks the internal traces on the boards? Is that likely? I do not know, but I do know I bought an XFX board at the same time and it had a MUCH better cooling system stock and is still running fine. Maybe the real problem here is Biostar cheaped out on the heatsink/fan. In any event, they have lost a customer and gained yet another negative feedback on this card.
Pros: Works great except for one problemo
Cons: Fails to eject on the first try. Press the button and it clunks but no movement. Try a few more times and it will open. Works great after that - writes well, just that first eject after you you fire up the PC has a major malfunction.
Overall Review: They all break, Rarely last me more than a year and I would not classify myself as a power users, I burn about 6 DVD a week. This one malfunctioned in about 3 months, been dealing with it 3 more, going to send it back while it is in warranty. But of course that means buying a spare from newegg!
Great choice for listed HP laptops!
Pros: I split this pair up and MIXED it with the stock 1 gig dimms in two laptops. So compatibility is excellent for certain HP laptops that people have named in these reviews.
Cons: I have found none.
Overall Review: I picked this memory by 1) Finding what speed and type of dimm my machines required using crucial web site. (They will scan your unit and tell you what you have and what you can use. Often Newegg will beat their price on the same mem, but I always come to Newegg to actually buy. Both companies have great service.) 2) Sort the laptop mem that meets my spec by lowest price looking for good ratings. 3) Read reviews looking for specific mention of verified purchasers who state they used the memory in my exact model, or at least in my series. This memory Fits a lot of HP laptops so I bought it. 1 2Gig went into my HP Pavilion DV2615nr (Says DV2000 on the display and DV2500 on the sticker on the bottom) and 1 2Gig went into my HP Compaq 6910p This gave me a total of 3 gig in both. I ran the bios memory diagnostics twice on each machine and then I have loaded OS and operated both laptops for months now with no problems. So do your homework!
Pros: Fast, dependable. This laptop is used as a server for Magic Jack and posting weather data to the net, so it is on 24x7. Not noisy or hot for just sitting there on a desk in the kitchen. So we walk by it and work around it all day. I think the fact that is is a lower power dual core AMD w/small screen helps that.
Cons: In your lap you will notice the small vibration and possibly the extra heat.
Overall Review: Since I have worked with Hard drives from back in the day when they were the size of washing machines, I exercise a lot of care with movement and probably that helps all my drives lifespan. So your mileage may vary. It always amuses me when I see the way people throw their laptops around like there was no hard drive in them spinning at up to 10k rpm. Buy solid state if you want to treat it like that.
