Pros: Works as advertised, truly "plug-n-play" - no drivers to load, nothing to mess around with. XP recognizes it off the bat and you're good to go. Linux Defender mounted it no problem, BartPE picks it up too (great for a recepticle in data recovery). Power cord is longer than average, plus the plug is standard size (the adapter is inline) so it doesn't hog up a bunch of space at the outlet. The auto on/off works with both my laptop and tower. It's much smaller than I expected from the photos, about as tall as a dollar bill. Runs very quiet and cool - after 2.5hrs of nonstop data transfer it was barely warm. My mp3's don't 'skip' when I play them from the drive (like one reviewer noted). I'm only using this drive as backup, but wanted to try it anyway. Maybe he's only using usb1? Maybe try defragging? USB2 is great. My tower didn't have USB2, so I bought one of these http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16815124002 at the same time and still spent less than what
Cons: The drive worked initially, but then suddenly and seemingly without reason stopped working. XP would only recognize a "USB Device" and then launch the driver wizard. XP SP2 had no driver for it, and neither did WD's site (that I could find). I did an internet search and found a posting where someone had my exact problem, called WD and was told to plug it into the wall directly. BINGO! As soon as I did that it was recognized again; and come to think of it I *had* plugged more stuff into that power strip when the drive quit working. I experimented a bit, and I could reproduce the problem by plugging it into a power strip with lots of other devices, and the problem went away as soon as I plugged it in by itself or on a less crowded power strip. I hope the other reviewers that had this problem had a chance to try this before returning a perfectly good drive.
Overall Review: There is some "spin-up" time once you access the drive after a period of inactivity, but it's not all that bad. I found some software on WD's site that lets you customize this drive (front button operation, time to spin-down, etc...). The included Google software is nothing to write home about. Had to format to NTFS, but that's no big deal - takes less than a minute (WD has a walkthrough for this in the support documentation if you don't know how to do it). Overall a fantastic purchase - I will be buying more. Kinda bummed that newegg dropped the price 2 days after I bought this one.
keep looking

Pros: Slim size, I like the power button. Gauge of metal is adequate, not super cheap or flimsy. I won't go so far as to say there's "cable management" but there is a nice spot to tuck most everything away behind the optical/HDD rack.
Cons: No switch to turn ps on/off. Also, ps lacks ATX 12V (8 pin) power connector that has been required by every mb I've ordered in recent history. Thankfully I had an adaptor. Also regarding ps: fan grill has large gaps, had to open the case twice to reroute cable that was falling into the fan. Optical drive cover found loose in box, I was not fortunate like the other reviewer to also find the spring. I now have the door taped closed, as it just flops open. If you want the side vent to point up, your front USB ports will be at the bottom. Stands will allow slight clearance, so if you're hell bent on having the usb ports at the top, you might get away with it, but this fan blows out - really should be on top to get heat out.
Overall Review: Typically, I'm forgiving and easy to please. Keep looking, this one falls short on too many points.
solid stick

Pros: Everything you want, nothing you don't. Feels solid, good size; convenient but not so small you lose it in your pocket. No pre-installed crapware, security suites or enryption stuff that convolutes compatability. Plug it in, put files on it. THANK YOU. Cap fits nice and snug, kinda rubbery, and snaps into the other end when you have it plugged in.
Cons: Wasn't free. Didn't do my taxes.
good enough

Pros: Does what it says. Hold all the parts together. 450w power is nice for this price; we'll see if it holds. uhh.. what else. Comes with screws and mb standoffs!!(?)
Cons: The metal everywhere is very thin. Very easy to bend even unintentionally. The whole case is very light. Take that as a positive or negative. Even after the build, the case is so light that I have to hold it lest inserting a thumb drive will push it back.
Overall Review: If you're heavy handed, you might want to keep looking. I think you could probably crumple this case with your bare hands like a soda can if you set your mind to it. If, though, like me, you just need a frame to hold stuff together and you aren't looking for all the bells and whistles that you'll only take advantage of once or twice during your build and later upgrade, then go for it.
Where have you been all my life

Pros: Fast! Ordered 7/9/12, came with latest firmware (000F). Installed Win7 with no problem whatsoever. This new build is freaking SILENT. Can't even tell it's on.
Cons: No mounting bracket!! boooooooooooo. I wound up using the holes on the bottom and screwing it to the side of the bay. I've read where others have velcroed or taped SSD's inside in a similar fashion. No moving parts, no big deal.
Overall Review: Got as part of COMBO #991914 Initially I was confused - SATA II mb paired w/ SATA III SSD? but after reading some real-world benchmarks, it's a pretty smart sweet spot given the tech and prices right now. Left channel died on me, too!!

Pros: Great sound, heavy speakers.
Cons: I wanted to like these speakers, but no go. The wire contact was broken on the right speaker upon arrival. I took it upon myself to open the speaker and replace that myself. Then a few months later, the left speaker died. Imagine my surprise logging on here and finding TWO other reviews complaining of the same thing!
Overall Review: Can't believe I spent this much... for this.
