GIGABYTE GM-FORCE M7 THOR Black 5 Buttons 1 x Wheel USB Wired Laser Gaming Mouse
GIGABYTE GM-FORCE M7 THOR Black 5 Buttons 1 x Wheel USB Wired Laser Gaming Mouse

Pros: I originally gave this mouse 2 stars and was going to return it, but I decided to use it a little longer because I really wanted to like it. I have to say, it has grown on me a lot. I can't believe how much better the sensor is on this compared to the G500 I was using before and, once you get adjusted, it is quite comfortable. I LOVE this mouse now.

Cons: *WARNING* - You need to let yourself acclamate to the way this mouse is shaped! Especially if you are a serious palm grip user! It took me a few days to fully get comfortable, but just be patient and give it a chance. I now understand why Gigabyte chose the ergonomic design of this mouse. You pretty much have to use a claw grip in order to get comfortable with it, but that's the point - it forces you to use a grip that is almost universally accepted as the better form for gaming. I wasn't a palm grip user per se; I used a more hybrid style, but the form of my hand has gotten a lot more "disciplined" ever since I started using this thing and, after getting used to it, I feel like I now have greater control and am overall more accurate in games.

Overall Review: I truly regret jumping the gun and reviewing this mouse sooner than I should have. I wish Newegg would let you edit reviews you've already done before, but oh well. If anyone is wondering - the "Thor" logo on the mouses body does not light up like you normally see on Razer mice.

Logitech G500 10 Buttons Dual-mode Scroll Wheel USB Wired Laser Gaming Mouse
Logitech G500 10 Buttons Dual-mode Scroll Wheel USB Wired Laser Gaming Mouse

Pros: Was comfortable and the sensor was pretty good.

Cons: My right clicker started to double click on me, which made FPS's impossible to play. Very disappointing.

Overall Review: To be honest, I'm kinda glad it died. I never liked this mouse; it always felt kinda cheap to me. That doesn't take away the fact that I paid a decent amount of money for a mouse and it barely lasted for a year. This will be my last Logitech product. Replacing it with a Gigabyte M7 Thor.

Lovely card with some quirks

GIGABYTE Gaming Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB GDDR6 PCI Express 5.0 x16 Graphics Card GV-R9070XTGAMING OC-16GD
GIGABYTE Gaming Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB GDDR6 PCI Express 5.0 x16 Graphics Card GV-R9070XTGAMING OC-16GD

Pros: My previous GPU was an EVGA RTX 3070 Ti that treated me well, but 8 GB's was getting rough. Even after swapping the thermal pads out and replacing the TIM with liquid metal, I would consistently hit 70c with power limits maxed out. Pretty good temps overall, but this 9070 XT is on a WHOLEEEEE different level. With the power limits maxed out, I rarely hit 65c at 100% utilization, which is absolutely insane to me for a stock card - This is considered a "budget" 9070 XT too! I have replaced the thermal paste on every GPU I've owned starting back in 2008, but this is the first card I've owned where I don't feel the need to do that. Gigabyte's engineering team gets major kudos for that alone. Performance wise - It's about twice as fast as my previous card and I haven't ran into a single game that it's struggled with. Even more impressive is the ray tracing performance. Obviously, it's nothing to write home about especially compared to the RTX 5090 or 5080, but it's the first time I've felt like RT was worth turning on. At max settings + Max RT in Resident Evil 4 remake, I was still able to maintain a consistent 165hz @ 1440p.

Cons: I've owned my fair share of AMD cards in the past - HD 3870, HD 5770, and HD 7950, so I'm VERY aware of all the past Radeon driver issues (the HD 5000 series was the absolute worst) and I haven't used a Radeon card since then, so it's been about 13-14 years, but I absolutely REFUSE to give Nvidia anymore of my money because of their complete lack of respect for their core fanbase and constant greed. I was very excited about the 9070 XT because I had been wanting an to leave Nvidia for YEARS and I'm glad I did. With that said, their driver team has made HUGE progress and I'd even argue that they're better than Nvidia's in some ways (HDR actually works correctly now). It's not a perfect experience though, but also not bad - the best word I can think of to describe Adrenalin is that it's "quirky. Adrenalin has more overall features and can be fun to tinker with, but the layout can be confusing, overclock profiles have to be manually reapplied every time you login, and a lot of times it reapplies the wrong settings. The most annoying bug I ran into was their audio having this "crackle" distortion on everything and drove me insane; I was able to fix it, but it took some a bit of digging (I swapped to a USB DAC).

Overall Review: It's a great card overall and I'm very happy with it. Buy it for the awesome performance and you can also feel proud knowing that you didn't give Nvidia your money.

Excellent!

Acer Nitro 5 - 15.6" GeForce GTX 1050 - Intel Core i5-7300HQ - 8GB Memory - 256 GB SSD - Windows 10 Home 64-Bit - Gaming Laptop - IPS (AN515-51-5082 )
Acer Nitro 5 - 15.6" GeForce GTX 1050 - Intel Core i5-7300HQ - 8GB Memory - 256 GB SSD - Windows 10 Home 64-Bit - Gaming Laptop - IPS (AN515-51-5082 )

Pros: - Performance is very good from a price to performance point of view. Bought this primarily to play Black Desert Online with my friends when we hang out. I was a bit hesitant about getting this particular Nitro 5 because BDO is pretty hardware demanding and I wasn't sure if a GTX 1050 could keep up with it, but I really didn't want to spend that much for something I wasn't going to be using all that much. I was taken completely by surprised the second I logged into the game. I hovered in the 40-50 fps @ 1080p in low populated areas at max settings, but I decided to take the resolution down to 1600x900 due to the way the UI scales weirdly on a 15.6" screen @ 1080p. I'm able to maintain a very consistent 60 fps unless I'm in a crowded area, but this is to be expected from any MMO. Only other game I've tried with it is League of Legends, which unsurprisingly plays fantastic on this at max settings @ 1080p. Considering the performance I get out of those two games, I have no doubt that, at the very least, you'll be able to play the latest games with acceptable frame rates. 10/10 - Screen is fairly nice. I haven't owned a computer with a TN panel for years and didn't plan on going back to one, which is another reason why I gravitated towards this laptop. I used my desktop monitor, a QNIX Evolution II, which uses the same type of panels that iMac's come with, as a reference. The panel that comes in the Nitro 5 is definitely not the best. Colors are a bit washed out and viewing angles are sub-par, but it is still very good for what I'm using it for. I would definitely NOT recommend it for anyone that does serious graphic designing work though unless you plan on using a secondary monitor. I should also mention that, because I haven't really seen it being talked about, the panel itself is matte and not a glass screen. 7/10 - Keyboard is chiclet - not much you can really say about it. I didn't have any expectations because it is what it is. If I wanted the best typing experience, then I'll just go use something with a mechanical switch. Comparing it to other laptop keyboards I've used though, it works just fine and I haven't noticed any no keyboard flex. It gets the job done. 8/10 - TouchPad is large and supports various types of gestures. Scrolling is smooth and, for general use, it works fine. Not much else to say about it other than I've used touchpads from other laptops that felt more robust, but I can't complain. 9/10 - Build quality is surprisingly pretty nice for an Acer. I've always associated them with making cheap junk, but the Nitro 5 feels very sturdy and well designed. I received mine with no marks, scratches, etc... Looks brand new as far as I'm concerned. Both the secondary hard drive bay and memory are easy to access to - just have to unscrew the separate lids and that's it. I had read that the hard drive bay requires a cable and mount that you have to order separately to take advantage of it, but mine came with both! I dropped another 256gb SSD into it without issue. The memory is a single stick of DDR4 2133 made by Kingston with one other empty slot. I'll most likely drop another 4 or 8 gb stick in the future, but it works fine for now. I've taken it into work on a few occasions and have been able to have a smooth, general use experience with it while running a game in the background. 9/10 - You really have to appreciate that Acer didn't go full gamer on this laptop - It has flare, but it's subtle and doesn't look completely ridiculous. I'm 29 years old; I don't care about having an RGB light show on any of my computers, having a design that looks like something that dropped straight out of space, or making sure everyone around me knows that I'm a "gamer". Most people who see me with it don't even realize it's a gaming laptop until they see the red LED keyboard or, you know, when I'm playing a game. 10/10 - Battery life is pretty bad while gaming, but that's to be expected. You'll get an hour at most if you're running something demanding. General use is about 3 hours, which is also pretty bad. I'm sure there are performance tweaks you can do in the settings that will make it last a bit longer, but I haven't bothered to try it and don't really care enough to. I have a smaller another, smaller laptop that will get me through an entire work day for those occasions. 5/10 - Very little bloatware. 9/10

Cons: This is my first "gaming" laptop that I've ever bought/owned. All my other laptops were simple, low-powered, general purpose machines. I knew going into it that this thing would put out more heat than I'm used to and yeah, it definitely does. It's not terrible, but, for the sake of the laptop itself, I would not recommend playing this on top of anything that would restrict airflow. This thing will get HOT if you don't allow it to ventilate correctly. I'll admit that playing a game in bed while watching a movie or something has spoiled me, but I bought a laptop cooling pad to use for those occasions and you should too if you want to take care of this thing.

Overall Review: I had read various reviews online that they experienced blue screens while running on battery with the Nitro 5. I have never experienced this problem because the very first thing I did with mine was I updated the BIOS to the latest version, which seems to fix the issue. It's unfortunate that it didn't ship with the latest version, but most laptops aren't up-to-date with anything out of the box. Always update your drivers, OS, and BIOS first before anything else people!

Does what it's supposed to do

WD Blue WD2500LPVX 250GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Bought this for a PS3 Super Slim and can't complain. I've been using a refurbished 1 TB Caviar Black in my desktop for the last three years and it's given me zero issues, so I wasn't worried about this at all.

Cons: The loading times are definitely slower than what my desktop is capable of, but I knew that going in.

Overall Review: Been using Western Digital hard drives for years almost a decade now and they've always been reliable. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Excellent

Phanteks PH-F120MP 120 mm PWM, High Static Pressure Radiator Fan
Phanteks PH-F120MP 120 mm PWM, High Static Pressure Radiator Fan

Pros: How far have you gone to silence your gaming PC? HTPC's are easy, but something that NEEDS good airflow because of the amount of heat the system puts out is a whole new ball field. Here are my specs: i5-2500k @ 4.5 ghz EVGA GTX 780 FTW edition 8gb Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600 EVGA Super Nova 750w PSU x2 Western Digital cavier blacks (2 TB a piece) in RAID 0 Samsung 850 Evo 256gb Rosewill THOR V2 case My case fans are 1 Cougar 140mm fan and the two stock 230mm Rosewill fans that came with my system (they are surprisingly good!). I have insulated both of the panel doors with sound dampening foam, all the fans are treated with rubber grommets, and I also removed the legs from the case and replaced them with Sorbothane rubber hemispheres to cancel out any vibrations reverberating to my desk - they make a nice difference especially if you have loud hard drives like my Caviar's. Anyways, I cool my CPU using a Corsair H100i system. While it works quite well, the fans that came with it were by far the loudest thing in my system both at idle and also when I am gaming. I use my desktop for movies as well as so getting it silent at idle was actually more important to me than anything else. I searched around for a while and came across these puppies. I'll admit I was kind of hesitant at first since there weren't any reviews, but oh man when I first turned my rig on I had to check to make sure they were actually working. Whether at idle or running hard, these things are stupidly quiet while not sacrificing performance. They push about the same amount of air as the old Corsair fans while putting out, I'd said, 1/6 the noise. They are that stinking quiet. At idle, I sometimes forget that my computer is even on. The most my CPU gets up to is 65c under Prime95, but normal gaming it hovers in the 53-58c depending on the game.

Cons: They were a tad expensive at the time I bought them and I wish they came in different colors.

Overall Review: The packaging is pretty much no-frills. All it comes with is the screws and fan. However, Phanteks was nice enough to put the direction of the airflow on the fan. I've been doing this stuff for over a decade and I still forget which way is which sometimes, so it's a nice touch. Overall, extremely impressed and satisfied. You should get these.
