Acer d255e netbook compatibility update

Crucial 2GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Laptop Memory Model CT25664BC1067
Crucial 2GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Laptop Memory Model CT25664BC1067

Pros: -cheap -high quality sounds like an oxymoron; like jumbo:scrimp, cheap:high quality

Cons: I got good news and bad news for those inexpensive but very nice Acer D255e units out there and their owners. First is this chip supposed to be compatible with the D255e. answer;yes and no. It appears that the Crucial 2GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Laptop Memory comes in @ least 1 or more varieties (or variatas as eric cartman would say). The good model is the one with the 4 memory chips per side DIMM. This is referred to as high density memory if u need a buzz word 4 whoever it is u may talk to on the phone. The bad news is that i received a chip with 8 chips each side or 16 total, like the one in the picture of this product. Instead of RMA and all that hassle i went to crucial and they are aware of this anomaly (the word for problem in the corporate world). they agreed to send me a replacement immediately (with an approved credit card) bill me and provide me with free return postage for the low density version.

Overall Review: I understand from the other reviews that the g.skill mod works in this computer. perhaps newegg is supplied with both parts and u might get lucky. if not or u already are in hot water u can go direct to crucial for action! I still give 5 stars since i can't fault newegg as micron themselves said it wasn't their fault since it meets the specs. I can't blame crucual (micron) since they fessed up and made things right. time is an overated thing in customer service. the customer wants to be confident that the part meets the specs. micron said they have a database and keep up on every issue and it's impossible and most definately a proprietary tool that they would not provide access to their vendor (newegg).

the good, the bad and the ugly

DELL Grade A Precision M4600 [Microsoft Authorized Recertified] 15.6?€? Notebook with Intel Core i7-2820QM Quad Core 2.3Ghz, 8GB RAM, 320GB HDD, DVDRW, HDMI Out, Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
DELL Grade A Precision M4600 [Microsoft Authorized Recertified] 15.6?€? Notebook with Intel Core i7-2820QM Quad Core 2.3Ghz, 8GB RAM, 320GB HDD, DVDRW, HDMI Out, Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

Pros: Its an i7 with 8gb memory, Memory slots are available. Metal case

Cons: Hugh and I mean huge power supply. (5x normal size and weight). Very heavy. Laptop without power supply is also very heavy. Together you need a fork lift. Battery lasts less than 1 hour (like realistically 30-45 minutes). I believe it is a 6 cell.

Overall Review: Tried to reach Joy (refurbishers) through technical support line to ask for a replacement battery but they always have a long wait (20 customers holding). They close at 5p EST called today got placed on hold at 4.30pm with 21 customers in the queue. At 5:15p the recording said "goodbye" and hung up. I will try newegg support next.

Watch the hinge on this netbook

MSI Wind12 U230-086US AMD Athlon Neo MV-40(1.60 GHz) 12.1" 2GB Memory 320GB HDD Netbook
MSI Wind12 U230-086US AMD Athlon Neo MV-40(1.60 GHz) 12.1" 2GB Memory 320GB HDD Netbook

Pros: Fairly inexpensive considering the amount of features that you get. Impressive battery life. 3 cell=2 hours. 6 cell=4 hours etc. Small and compact form factor.

Cons: My only complain about my MSI is the casing. The hinges put too much pressure on the case and caused stress fractures. The fracture is right above the on/off button so the button gets stuck in the on position sometimes. I have had my MSI quite a while but the casing on this one looks to be exactly the same although the innards are a bit more modern. I also know someone who has an eee PC. I believe both eee and MSI are manufaced by ASUS. The case on the eee has a much better hinge that doesn't put stress on the case. I was hoping MSI would have changed this design as I am sure that they have seen what I am talking about when netbooks are returned for warranty service. Perhaps they blame the user for rough handling.

Overall Review: My advice is to purchase the eee PC over the MSI because of the case is very fragile at the hinge points. I hope MSI changes this design in the future because the machine is otherwise quite nice.
