Most Favorable Review

Good Price (not for every situation)

Rosewill RC-201 PCI SATA Silicon Image, RAID 0/1, Normal and Low Profile Host Controller Card
Rosewill RC-201 PCI SATA Silicon Image, RAID 0/1, Normal and Low Profile Host Controller Card

Pros: Very affordable. Works out of the box.

Cons: Not compatible with the Asus AX7v8x's onboard Promise RAID chip. If the onboard RAID has drives attached, the system will hang after it detects the Rosewill RAID. Otherwise, works fine. Having the Rosewill board in without drives attached to it also works fine. This chipset does not support individual, non-raided drives, though there are drivers for that on the install disk. Do not install those drivers, they will not work.

Overall Review: None of the cons above dissappointed me, since I expected to have those troubles. For the price I was willing to experiment.

Most Critical Review

unreliable, pretty

COOLMAX HD-380BK-eSATA Leather & Aluminum 3.5" Black SATA eSATA + USB 2.0 OTB Function External Enclosure
COOLMAX HD-380BK-eSATA Leather & Aluminum 3.5" Black SATA eSATA + USB 2.0 OTB Function External Enclosure

Pros: Pretty case, nicely designed. Disassembles easily, hard drive slides onto baseplate nicely, rails hold the case onto the baseplate firmly, with no sticking. Newegg's shipping was wonderfully fast!

Cons: Power connector is unreliable, leading to corrupt data. The barrel insert is short, and sits too loosely in the socket. Even a small amount of lateral pressure can interrupt power. I tested the enclosure on three different hard drives, and experienced differing levels of data corruption. You may not notice data corruption right away: it was obvious to me because it resulted in a corrupt password registry.

Overall Review: I really wanted to like this product, because aside from the power connector, it was very nicely thought through.
